I was recently contacted by ArtsHeaven.com to see if I would be interested in receiving one of their paintings for my home as a gift. After looking at the pieces on their beautiful website, and seeing that they could turn any photo into a painting, I knew this would be a great addition to my home! As it was, I had just placed a new to me dresser in my bedroom and wanted the perfect piece to put over it. Our master bedroom has a gallery wall I love, so I needed something that wouldn’t fight with it, but play nicely with it. A friend had long ago suggested a sepia toned family photo. I loved this idea, and knew that our family photos from last Fall would have the perfect piece lying within them. As usual, I dragged my feet on ordering, but that was a blessing in disguise! Because when ArtsHeaven contacted me I was ready to take it a step further and have my photo turned into a painting!
I chose a photograph of me and Chris kissing, as it was going in our bedroom and I planned to give him the painting for our anniversary. We don’t do gifts (unless you consider making sure we still have power and our paying our car note gifts?), so this was a great chance for me to do something special for both of us. Last year, the talented Eddie of Jalapeno Photography shot this photo of us….
I played around with it in picmonkey to alter the color for the painting and here is the result which I emailed to ArtsHeaven to have made into a painting.
Now, before I show you my painting, I want to share a little DIY portion with you. When I received the painting it was carefully rolled up and the painting was covered for protection. I knew I’d have to come up with a way to display it so I purchased a couple of 3 foot dowels (my painting is 24×30) and hot glued them to the back side of the painting on the top and bottom. I then rolled them slightly and hot glued a little more to create the look of a vintage scroll. I finished by adding some rope to hang it by and here is the final result in my bedroom (along with a sneak peek of the new dresser, which I hope to share soon!)
Can you even believe this is a PAINTING???
If you look closely, you can see the brushstroke detail, which I love!
But the overall look is so similar to the photograph- I was so impressed by the quality and attention to detail. I mean, just look at this- this is the painting below.
And here are the details of my little DIY addition to display it.
As you can see below, I rolled the canvas around the dowel and glued in place.
On the top dowel, I added rope to hang. I am not the most skilled and pretty much know one type of knot, so that’s what I did.
And the best part about it… Chris really loved it, too! He was worried when I told him I had a really cool surprise for him for our anniversary. I scare him with what my idea of a “cool surprise” usually is apparently. 😉
Thank you so much to ArtsHeaven.com for providing me with this amazing painting! I was not compensated for this post, other than receiving the painting. All opinions are my own.
