Kitchen Updates: New Hardware & Stools for a Modern Organic Vibe

I am on a roll this week so I thought I would just wrap it up with all of the other kitchen updates I’ve made.  So far you’ve seen the island with its streamlined crates, organizational ideas with open shelving, and now the final touch.  A couple of you have asked about the stools at the island, and I also wanted to show you the changes I made to the hardware.  These little tweaks can help keep a space changing with my ever evolving style.

You might have noticed the new hardware the other day.  When we first redid the kitchen, I went with classic glass knobs and pulls from D.Lawless Hardware and I loved how they paired with the navy cabinets.  Here’s a little refresher of what they looked like last fall.Farmhouse Style Kitchen with Open Shelving- Navy and Aqua, White and AmberPinWhile I loved the glass, they were starting to feel a little too “cottage” and I was hoping to go with something either more modern or more organic, or both.  The cabinets have original antique brass hinges so I decided to peruse D.Lawless for pulls that would work with that finish.  I found these with wood centers that mimicked the wood in our butcher block countertops, and I was sold.  They aren’t modern, but they do have that organic vibe I like as well.Wood Brass Cabinet PullPin

Of course replacing the pulls meant I had to also change the knobs.  I wanted something more modern for those… I loved loved loved these simple round knobs, but was told the finish wasn’t quite the same.  I ended up choosing these which are the same finish.  To be honest, I like them, but they are too traditional for me, so I am still on the hunt for something just right.

One thing I want to note is that with 3 dogs, one of which is a CRAZY wild jumping dog, this paint has held up exceptionally well and is going on 4 years.  Scratches can be seen a bit on the poly I used (prior to General Finishes carrying topcoats). but the paint itself has stayed put. (Those lines are scratches from Catcher….. ugh!  Luckily they are actually not noticeable in person; you have to catch them in exactly the right light).

Overall, I love how the change looks and brings a touch of gold and warmth into my kitchen.

Updating Kitchen Hardware is an easy and affordable changePin

ow a few of you have asked about the new stools you’ve noticed at the island.  For the longest time, I had a great set of actual vintage aqua industrial stools.  They were gorgeous, original, and unique.  Paired with the industrial style island, and the industrial style lighting above the island, it all started to feel a little too…. well, industrial.

Industrial Stools at Kitchen IslandPin

I wanted to clean up the look of the stools, find something a little more comfortable than wood for my behind (since I often sit here working), and something with a more modern appeal.  My friend Jesse owns a fabulous online store, Scout & Nimble, and she happened to have one set of the chrome modern wire stools I was looking for left in stock.Industrial Island with Modern StoolsPin

A few of you have asked if they are comfortable… YES!  We all like them better… Sawyer said he felt like a king the first day relaxing and sitting back.  They are cushioned and I added sheepskins to all but one (simply because I only had 3!) and they feel great.  I also love the cleaner look that they have with less color going on there.Industrial Island doubles as home office spacePin

Of course some of you also wanted to know “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR VINTAGE STOOLS?!??!?!  HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!?!!?”  No, I haven’t lost my mind but you know how it is… sometimes you just crave change.  Of course some of you said you hoped I still had them so I could put them back at another time.  I am doing my best to clean out though, so I didn’t do that.  Around this time, my friend Carrie, whose gorgeous farmhouse you saw here, was finishing up her own kitchen reno, and on the hunt for the perfect stools for her island.  I sold them to her for exactly what I paid for them (A steal at $125 for all 4!) and I am happy to say I will be shooting her kitchen next week to share with you.  I can’t wait… you guys, it’s SO good!  You’re going to love it!

Well, that is all for kitchen updates for the moment… I mean, in my house, everything is subject to change so I make no promises. 😉

Thank you to D.Lawless Hardware for providing pulls & knobs and to Scout & Nimble for providing stools.  I was in no other way compensated and all opinions are my own.

Girl, I love the tweaks. I’ve always thought the original stools were really fun but I actually LOVE the new set in there. I agree, that sometimes the kitchen could pull a bit more cottage like and think the new additions make it more modern/industrial. Have a good weekend!

Big fan of the new stools. I liked the old ones too but understand what you mean about too much industrial being too industrial. The wood on the new pulls is pretty too. Seems to fit the more natural eclectic vibe you’ve been moving towards.

I love those new wood pulls! They look so good with the navy! And I’ll shed a tear over here for those industrial bar stools… but the new ones are fabulous as well!

I thought the stools looked different!!! I love how these tie in with the island lighting, and how you’ve warmed them up with the sheepskin. Cabinet hardware looks awesome too! Always impressed with how swapping hardware transforms the feel of a kitchen.

Love the changes (and I loved it before too)! Good to hear that your cabinets are holding up since I’m planning on referencing your post when I paint our cabinets.

oooh, wonder if you can try to mix it. I’m thinking of the emerald green, but I don’t know if that’s too much since everything else we’ve painted so far is black or white.
