Can you believe Mother’s Day is just 6 days away? My family was asking me what I wanted, and I was perplexed… isn’t it still a month away? What?! My gift this year is that we are getting new family photos taken in June. We haven’t had them done since before I was pregnant with Wilder, and now that he’s one, we really need documentation of our larger family. In my opinion, Mother’s Day is a great time to let your family indulge in those things they don’t always want to do like pose for photos while pretending they love one another, maybe clean the house for you (bonus points if they clean the toilets!) while you get a couple hours of peace. Those things sound absolutely heavenly, but I know that they aren’t always possible. I put on my thinking cap and thought of some other things I would love to be the recipient of this holiday and wanted to share this list of last minute Mother’s Day gift ideas with you, in case, like me, you forgot that this Hallmark holiday is literally right around the corner. egg chair / instax camera / terrazzo coasters / pink glasses / glitter and glue: a memoir / gratitude journal / 52 lists for happiness / portable speaker / mukluks slippers / beach cover up/ set of 4 pottery tea cups / green tea / black quote mug /peanut gallery tea towel / you are my favorite tea towel / snake plant / terra cotta planter / rainbow sandals / OPI nail polish / trinket dish / monogram star & heart necklace
One of the ways that I really like to relax is to sit outside and read. This egg chair is a bit of a splurge, but who wouldn’t love to read curled up in it on the patio? Need a book to go with that chair? I actually recommended this memoir a couple of years ago (read my review here). It’s a truly moving book about a young woman who becomes a nanny for a widower. She recalls her own mother’s tactics and now, stepping into that maternal role, understands so much more how much her mother did for her. Additionally, one of the things that I always wish I would make time for is journalling. I honestly think if I received one of these books as a gift (this one or this one), I would make it a practice. Recounting gratitude is the key to happiness; and, from what I hear, pretty much every successful entrepreneur keeps a journal. There’s got to be something to that.
I am not at all a gadget person, but these are two that I can get behind. This instax camera is so cute and on major sale at Target this week! Emmy has it in mint and I would love to get one of my own to take pictures of the kids and put up in a fun retro display in our home. A portable speaker would also be awesome. I love to sit outside with Wilder, and it would be great to take some tunes with us. This cutie is on sale at Anthropologie right now, and I love its stylish look.
We actually need new coasters, so I have been on the lookout for a great set. These terrazzo coasters are speaking my language right now. I love the colors and pattern! Speaking of drinks, I would love to get a set of pink or amber glasses for our open shelving in our new kitchen. I’ve been on the lookout for something vintage, but these are pretty sweet, too.
Pool season is upon us, and if you’re like me, you’ll most likely be dragging your kids to the local pool all summer so you can keep them from killing one another. I do not have a bikini bod (I mean, I have a bod and I can put on a bikini, but….) so I am all about a good cover up. This classic white one is perfect for any style. I would also wear this cover up with shorts to lounge around my house. And every woman who lounges around her house needs a pair of these comfy slippers. Sure, it’s going to be summer, but in our house we (read, Chris and kids while I freeze) crank the AC and I love to wear my mukluks, even with shorts.
Another thing I have been on the lookout for is a great set or even mixed set of pottery mugs for our new kitchen. I am looking for something neutral, like these, currently on sale at Anthropologie. I also really love this black mug with an inspiring quote just inside the top, “And still I remain golden.” When I am not drinking coffee from my cup, I am a big fan of green tea and I’d love to try this one, which has rave reviews. If you’re looking for something to complement a gift of tea and a cup, these tea towels from Anthropologie are so fun! My personal favorite is the “peanut gallery” one which just seems perfect for our family, but “you are my favorite” is sweet and would be perfect for the aunt or motherly figure in your life.
My favorite kind of gift for pretty much any occasion is a potted plant. I had to give up all but one of my plants in our move, and one of the very first I purchased again was a snake plant. They are hardy and easy and look super cool, too. This planter would also make the perfect vessel for a snake plant.
A lot of women out there love to get pedicures… I am not one of those women. I also don’t love to buy shoes, and am very practical when it comes to my feet, purchasing shoes I can wear with everything and that will be comfortable. I love my rainbow brand flip flops, so when I spied these sandals, I knew they’d be a great new summer staple. Of course, when I wear sandals, I paint my own toenails, and OPI is always my go to brand. I always love a pale pink for a less noticeable look, and this year I am also into warm corals.
Lastly, for the jewelry lovers out there… this sweet trinket dish has such a great shape and color and is on sale! (In the time it took me to write this post, it sold out! However, here is another one I have seen in person and really love!) To go with it, this heart and star monogram necklace would be a great gift. I am currently in the no necklace phase because of Wilder, but if I could, I would totally love to receive this one.
I hope this list has given you some ideas for the mom, aunt, friend in your life… or yourself. There’s no shame in that! 😉
