Maria’s Anthropologie Style Gray Dresser

A couple weeks ago I finished this dresser.

Maria had seen it and loved it, but it had already sold.  It just so happened that I had this dresser waiting in the wings…

I had purchased it off craigslist for $10 and was wanting to give it a similar treatment.  However, it had layers of paint on it, so I tested it for lead before continuing.  Lucky for me and Maria, it tested negative.  I began thr wtripping process with my favorite and safest Citristrip.  It had so much paint on it, that I went through the process 4 times.  When all was said and done, it had some very old paint in a sort of design on the bottom drawers.  I loved the look of the old paint being there, and gave it a coat of cabot semi-solid daerk gray stain.  I was in love with the look of the ghostly design behind the stain!  This is what it looked like….

Isn’t it soooo cool?????  I was in love!!!!  Maria wasn’t as in love as I was, so we had to come up with a way to cover up the old paint.  I had Cabot solid dark gray stain on hand as well, so I got to work brishing that over the dresser.  Once that was dry, I gave it another coat over the old paint to hide it more.  Then I went over it all with Cabot semi-solid linen stain, and then distressed the piece by hand.  Here is the final outcome, and it was delivered today to a happy Maria!

    That is beautiful!

And made me want to check craigslist. Our rural area just doesn’t seem to have nearly as many treasures as yours does!

I agree that the ghost paint is waaaay cool, but it also looks amazing in it’s final state. Either way, you couldn’t go wrong! And I see you still haven’t raked the yard 😉 Me neither!

That grey semi solid stain is so amazing! I never would have thought of using that on furniture. I always paint my furniture, maybe thin it out first for a look like this and then rub it off for that look but the solid stain sounds much easier (no rubbing off = skip a step = save time = it’s for ME!). I’ve only heard of solid stain on exterior siding (I have that). The finished dresser is GORGEOUS and I love how the original hardware POPS now don’t you? Awesome and I enjoyed your blog. I’d love for you to stop by my blog sometime too 😉 Oh and I think I’ll be your newest follower!

I love it! It definitely gives Anthropologie a run for their money! It’s so much better when you can say that you had a piece designed especially for you anyway. I’ve been wanting to do some “French Gray” pieces lately & this gives me the inspiration that I need to get started. Thanks!
