Master Bedroom Updates: New Nightstands and A Rugs USA Moroccan Rug

Happy Monday!  Hope you all had a great weekend and wonderful Father’s Day!  We have had a great first four days of summer.  The kids and I spent the first two days off from school relaxing, watching movies, and staying in our pj’s!  In my defense it was gray and rainy, and I did spend a good amount of time purging and organizing in the kids rooms, and shuffling furniture in my own bedroom.

I’ve been slowly working on a bedroom update which I started here.  Since then I have made some changes and have decided to shuffle the furniture a bit.  I figured I should update you before another year passes and I’ve shuffled it again, or painted it another color.  I was so excited to get the ball rolling with a moroccan rug from Rugs USA.

Before I show you what I’ve done, let me remind you where I was….

(You may also recall I had found an awesome painting that I had added for my Spring tour)…

The room desperately needed a rug update, so I was thrilled to work with RugsUSA to find the perfect rug for our bedroom!  I chose the Rugs USA Tuscan Modern Moroccan Shag Ivory Rug in an 8×10, which was slightly bigger than the rug I had.

I love this rug so much!  It is so soft and feels wonderful under my feet.  At first I was not sure I was sold.  The color was listed as “ivory” and I assumed the contrast color was black.  However, upon receiving the rug I could see that it was definitely a chocolate brown.  I unrolled it and lived with it before I decided on it, and in the end, I loved it.  It had caught me off guard because I was expecting black, but the neutral colors still work perfectly with the room.  Jake loves laying on it as well, it’s like his very own 8×10 dog bed and his fir blends in better with this rug.  (I have to vacuum all the time, but I was NEVER able to get all of the visible fur our of the other rug.  I probably still am not getting it out of this one, but hey, I can’t see it!)

SO….. I loved the rug in the room and that led to more changes… I decided I needed to ditch the armoire that housed the TV, move the turquoise dresser to the wall the armoire had been on and put the TV on it, move the gallery wall around the TV, and find a wood dresser for the wall the turquoise dresser had been on…. PHEW!  Follow that?

One thing I did not intend to do was change my gold leafed nightstands, but then I came across a pair of midcentury modern cabinets, painted them white and added gold leaf trim (inspired by Brynne at The Gathered Home), and I had to keep them!  They could not have been more perfect!  (Full details on those will be coming next week, but of course they will make their debut on the blog today!).

So, enough of the talk.  You want to see pictures, right?  Here are the changes so far…
This is Chris’ nightstand, which I accessorized with a picture of me, of course. 😉  (with a newborn Sawyer).

And my side…. We both have outdated but still functioning alarm clocks.  They’re sorta vintage.

Here is a closer look at the nightstands.

I just love the gold leafed edge!  Again, full details coming next week.

I just love the cozy feel the rug lends to the room.  It helps warm the space, and my toes!
Now let’s take a look at the wall that formerly had the armoire.  It looked like this just a few days ago…
And today… (And yes, I still need to paint where I patched holes from the gallery wall moving!)

As you can see, I moved the dresser (I did this all while Chris was at work, and then texted him a picture.  He told his coworkers I was crazy.  I think I was just determined).  I was just impressed that I was able to disassemble TV/DVD/cable and properly reconnect them.  I usually get so confused by all those wires!
The new Rugs USA moroccan rug pairs perfectly with this wall, too- it’s more neutral palette will let me play with color a little more in this wall.  I’m looking forward to finding a couple more pieces to fill some holes.

This dresser will forever be a favorite of mine… I love the color and love the hardware and love it against the navy walls.

The gallery wall is made up of several things I love and several things that were gifts.  It’s all special to me!

I am really happy so far, just loving all of the changes!  The only dilemma now is the wall the turquoise dresser formerly lived on.  I had planned to find a midcentury modern long and low wooden dresser, but I am not sure if that would be too many long low pieces.  I could keep the dresser I have, but add a chair to one side.  As it sits alone on that wall now, it’s completely dwarfed, so something has got to change.  So to keep it real for you, here’s a peek at that wall currently.  Womp womp womp.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!  Ideas are welcome here!
You may have also noticed that giant painting is gone.  With the changes I made, it just didn’t fit in the room.  And I have to be honest, it just wasn’t feeling right for me.  So it’s currently adding a nice pop of color to my garage.

Disclosure: Rugs USA provided me with a rug of my choice, but I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are my own.

Love all of the changes you made to your bedroom (and in your first few days of the kids being off for summer – I’m so impressed!). Those nightstands are awesome and I’ve been coveting that rug for forever – it looks great!! For the wall where the dresser is, have you thought about going with something wider and taller like a unique bookcase?

Everyone’s got that womp womp wall! I have too many to picture! I love the changes and I definitely think all the pieces work better! I am obsessed with your quilt. Was that a Crane and Canopy score? And I can’t tell you how many times Taylor has called me crazy for moving huge pieces by myself. It especially scared him when I would do it pregnant!

Your changes made such a drastic difference in the room! As much as I love your gold nightstands, these cabinets are better I think! And, we’re cube alarm clock twinkies…I know mine is at least 20 years old! Do you need a storage piece on that wall? What about just leaving it alone, and maybe add your fun gigantic painting there by itself?

Love, love, love this post! You are so real, Cassie! Thank you! How many pics of bedrooms do I see with the night stands perfectly staged with layers of gorgeous vintage stuff…but really? No alarm clock or kleenex (or in my case my old lady drugs!). And folks are constantly shifting their vignettes, but magically the walls have no holes and are painted perfectly! Of course there are going to be holes until you can patch and repaint…so thank you for showing us what reality truly is. And lastly, your dresser is and will always be one of my most favorite ‘reloves’ ever…It is gorgeous! My ranting is over… 🙂

looking great in there! those nightstands are amazing, and you know I’m a big fan of a dark blue bedroom :). And don’t worry–in a few years your kids will be old enough to hook up all the wires for you, and you’ll never have to worry about it again (if my mom is any indication, it’s even perfectly okay to call them up and demand they come fix your electronics for you after they move out ;))

I’ll always be obsessed with your turquoise dresser and it’s just cruel of you to post a close up of that hardware!! For the other wall, what about two of those oversized, black and white engineer prints from Staples of your favorite little people? Mine is 28″ x 40″ for $5 and in an Ikea frame. Good luck!

I feel like a dope cuz I never noticed that the dresser in your header is the one in your bedroom. That hardware – to die for! Here are my suggestions. You are right. A long low dresser would be too much. I would get a really tall slender wardrobe or cabinet that can be painted similar/complimentary to the wonderful bedside tables. Put a cool chair beside it. If you don’t find something like that use a large/tall piece of art above the dresser you have there to give a similar effect. It should be light in color.
    Love the new rug!
