Happy Monday morning! I have a fun makeover today I am excited to share, a midcentury modern persian blue sideboard with modern gold hardware from D. Lawless. I dub this modern beach style.
I loved the lines of this piece when I bought it, but I wasn’t a fan of the hardware which was chrome with brass finish that was all fading off. It had done its time. Admittedly, I liked the finish, but with replacing the pulls I needed to fill holes, so it was going to have to be painted.
I began by removing the old hardware, and giving the piece a thorough sanding all over.
I filled the holes with Wunderfil which happens to be my all time favorite wood filler. I filled once, sanded, and repeated. Whenever I fill holes I fill at least two times to achieve the smoothest possible fill as the filler shrinks when it dries.
Once it was sanded and filled, it was ready for paint. I applied two coats of General Finishes Persian Blue. I love this color- it’s the perfect green-gray-blue and looks good on anything! This was my first time using on a more modern piece, and I love the outcome.
To finish and protect the paint, I added a couple coats of General Finishes top coat in satin which has a slight sheen to it.
Finally, it was ready for hardware, and new holes for the hardware. I really wanted something modern and I knew I wanted gold to warm up the cool color. I found these amazing Asian Hub Knobs in brushed satin gold for the doors.
And to complement them, I selected these Asian Hourglass pulls in satin gold for the drawers. I LOVE the shape of these!
I drilled new holes in the center of each drawer and moved the door knobs up to the corner which I felt was more accessible. And then it was finished…. voila!
The hardware really shines beautifully against the blue, and gives this piece that modern touch I was looking for.
As you can see from the photos, we had it all set up for our Sweet Clover sale last week.
It didn’t sell yet, but I do love it… so… maybe I can find somewhere for it. 😉 You just can’t keep them all.
Thank you to D.Lawless Hardware for providing me with hardware for this post. I was not otherwise compensated and all opinions are my own.
