I am excited to be partnering with Photogrpahy.com to share with you a special offer for my readers! I was provided with the modern acrylic family photo for this post and will receive a small commission on sales made from my links. All photos and opinions are my own. I know it’s been nothing but crickets over here this past week, but bear with me! I am about to cut back on my hours at J. Crew which will allow me more time for you guys and more time to dedicate to my own home projects as well as my new slightly bigger space I am moving into at Sweet Clover. All good things are on the horizon and I am so looking forward to more time for the creative endeavors that spark me. I’ve also finally jumped on the ‘This is Us” train so binge watching that has taken up many of my evenings over the past two weeks… I am not ashamed to admit that! Emmy often watches it with me, so it’s quality family time, right? Speaking of quality family time, last summer we were able to take the trip of a lifetime, a family road trip through several states with several stops, and I documented the entire adventure with my camera. Some of my favorite memories with my people were made on this trip, one of those being the challenging hike we took at Sylvan Lake in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I stayed behind the family for most of the hike so that I could snap away at them and anything else I saw without slowing them down. (Of course when we had to climb up the wet and slippery rocks, I made Chris carry the camera bag and I stayed in front setting the slow pace. 😉 ). The kids whined several times on this hike about how challenging it was, and Emmy had a couple of crying breakdowns and was sure that she couldn’t make it. She also slipped and her foot landed in a stream, soaking her shoe. However, when we reached the end, my kids felt a triumphant rush like none they had ever experienced! When Photography.com reached out to ask me if I would like to partner with them and receive a photo printed any way I liked, I knew exactly what photo I wanted to use. I just wasn’t sure which of their many print mount options I would choose.
When I checked out their website, I settled very quickly on the acrylic mount. The photo is printed directly onto the acrylic and it has a nice sleek and flat profile. It can sit on a shelf, or also has hardware on the back so it can be mounted on the wall. This style has become my favorite very quickly as I love the modern simplicity, especially since my spaces tend to have lots of other things going on, if I am being honest. I’ll get to my acrylic photo in a second, but first I want to show you why I chose the photo I did from this special hike. This photo is NOT the one I used, but it conveys just how victorious we all felt when we had finished as a family, helping each other and encouraging each other the entire time. To me, this hike was a metaphor for what we’ve been through together the past couple of years, and showed that if we work together, are unafraid to cry, and are not ashamed to ask for and take help, we can get through anything. This photo was not my best work and slightly blurry, but look at the joy on those faces!
Now, for the photo I did choose… I selected a photo that had Chris and the kids hiking along the trail with the gorgeous pine trees all around. It caught the natural beauty of the location as well as the people I love. When it arrived, I was thrilled with the quality and look of the acrylic, and placed it on the shelves in my dining room.
As you can see, I found a quote for my letter board and worked it around the photo. I also added my “scenic route” print as I felt it fit the whole vibe of what I was going for. I love the slim profile of the acrylic which allows it to sit well on shallow shelves layered in front of another piece.
Here you can see the lovely finish of the acrylic as well. I tried to capture a bit of the glare just so you could see the smooth and shiny surface.
The acrylic is hard and sturdy and has made this photo into something that I can treasure forever.
Of course, I am looking forward to many more family adventures and road trips in the future with our newest addition as well.
While we’re here I thought I’d give you a little peek at a change I recently made to the dining room as well. I’ve found a new to me set of 6 Thonet bentwood chairs, and we pulled the bench away from the table and over to the wall. To be honest, we were tired of pulling the bench out from the table to eat and with my belly it’s been getting harder to get myself situated on it. Additionally, the kids like to plop their backpacks on it after school, and at the table they’d fall off. Now they’re against the wall and it just makes sense. No matter how many times I’ve asked the kids not to use the bench for the backpacks, they always do, so I may as well accept it and roll with it.
I can’t wait to show you the new chairs! According to the seller, they came from an old Wendy’s. They are in need of new fabric on their seats and I am still deciding on that, so once I have them recovered with whatever I select, I’ll be showing them to you. But I digress….
