Happy Monday! I am SOOOOO excited to share my master bedroom reveal with you today. Back at the end of July I shared its newly painted white walls, and some other plans that I had for the space. Over the last month we’ve worked on finishing it up and have also made a couple minor changes to our plan. I honestly didn’t think I would be sharing the entire space today, but a couple things came together at the last minute, so here we are! As for some of the DIY and art projects in this space, I’ll be sharing those in the next two weeks. Today is all about the reveal! And many thanks to Ace Hardware for kicking me into gear… My assignment this summer was to complete a larger scale project, and without that I might still be sleeping in a moody navy room dreaming of a lighter space. Enough talk…. let me introduce you to my new modern bohemian bedroom!
I took this shot from the doorway of the room to give you a feel for the layout. You can see the midcentury dresser to the right, and the built in desk nook to the left. The wall facing the bed features one of the biggest additions, a DIY shiplap wall that I’ll be sharing full details on later. Before we get to the rest, just a quick reminder of what this space looked like before:
And now, here is that same wall which once housed the gallery.
With the help of a new nail gun from Ace Hardware and some head-hurting math formulas, Chris and I were able to knock this wall out in a day. The original plan was to paint it Illumination by Clark & Kensington just like the rest of the space, but once I saw that turquoise dresser against that wood wall, it was hearts and stars! (As you can see, the final vote and decision was made on the beach art as well, and again, more details will come on that later!)
I was able to bring in much more plant life as planned to bring in more hints of green. I purchased a couple at Ikea, and then as luck would have it score a couple pothos and a snake plant at a moving sale Saturday morning! I had already planned to purchase a snake plant because I have one in our downstairs bathroom and it is thriving with barely any care at all (my kind of plant!), so I knew it would do well in our master bedroom where conditions aren’t exactly consistent.
The nook also received an update with its new floating desk, and an emerald green metal set of industrial drawers from Ikea. This space will eventually become my vanity/makeup area but I was not able to get the mirror I wanted, so for now it’s just set up as a desk. Those drawers will hold all of my makeup and probably random other junk that I have nowhere else to hide. I also found this amazing pendant shade on sale for 12.99 at Ikea, and made it work with an existing flush mount globe fixture. (DIY post to come later!).
Here is a shot I took so you could see how it all works together…. the whites, woods, greens and blues mix perfectly to create a space I love. (Minus those pesky ugly outlets I need to replace…).The headboard was replaced with a vintage folding screen I purchased from one of my vendors at Sweet Clover. I had been so inspired by a vintage screen Sarah Dorsey used as a headboard and couldn’t wait to recreate something similar in my space. We also added green with the touch of a new pillow from Stuck on Hue, and a DIY doily dreamcatcher I created. (I didn’t plan to share a tutorial on that, but am happy to if you are interested!).
Everything else over here is the same, from the lamps to the DIY nightstands to the vintage 1990 alarm clocks. I brought over two photos from the gallery wall and hung them over the nightstands. These photos were taken one week before Emmy was born, so although she isn’t in them, she’s in them, and I feel like they are great family shots.
Chris’ nightstand typically has 3 half full water cups, crinkled receipts, and more. I neatened it up for photos. But I admit I am glad when he leaves half full water cups because I use that water for the plants because I am too lazy to go get a pitcher of water. 🙂
My side is similar, but I have a more feminine teal tray.
And in case you are wondering what I am reading right now, it’s on the nightstand. I am more than half way through and loving Dear Carolina.
Finally, the last wall in the room is where my midcentury dresser sits. This is the beast that stores my clothing…
I found this blue vase this Spring at a yard sale, and added some faux greenery from Michael’s. And you may remember the photo turned painting from last year. Some people think it’s too much, I am sure, but this is our master bedroom. Now as if Ace Hardware hasn’t done enough by kicking my butt into high gear to get this room, they are also offering one lucky reader a $100 Ace Hardware gift card for your next DIY project!
