Moody Modern Boho Bedroom

I am thrilled to share with you more painted walls in our new home, specifically our moody modern boho master bedroom progress.  This past weekend, we put on our painting clothes and got down and dirty with Sherwin Williams Greenblack paint.  I raved about my experience with Sherwin Williams last week when I showed you our master bathroom color; at that visit, I also purchased the paint for our master bedroom.  One thing I knew for sure was that I wanted a moody dark bedroom, but what I wasn’t sure of was how I wanted it painted.  I contemplated painting the walls black 3/4 of the way up, with white the rest of the way; I deliberated over a black accent wall which I have seen done well in so many homes, and I even once did it in our old guest room.  I even took to instagram and let people vote between those two and it was decided I would do 3/4 of the way up.  However, when it came down to it, I know myself and what I like… I like solid colored walls all the way around, I am not a fan of partial paint in my own home though I love it in other people’s, and I don’t like accent walls unless they are patterned.  In the past, I’ve done patterned accent walls which have stayed, and painted accent walls as well as partial painted walls which have all been painted over because I’ve tired of them and wanted a purely solid finish.  If you voted on instagram, I thank you so much for helping me deliberate; all the contemplation helped me really understand myself and what I like most when it comes to paint… solid painted walls. This past weekend, Chris and I made it happen! (Sidenotes: I am having issues with photo quality when exporting for web… I’ve tried everything to fix it, but can’t seem to find a solution.  Secondly, I will have all sources for you at the end of this post.  Affiliate links are used here.)

Actually, it’s sort of funny how it happened.  With all of the furniture already in our room, we knew it would be a bit challenging to work around.  We decided to start with two walls and verbally agreed to that.  In my mind, “start with two walls” meant we would paint two walls, then move the furniture and paint the other two, all in the matter of that day.  In Chris’ mind, it meant we would paint two walls and put away the paint until the next time we could work on it.  Oh no no no, that was not going to work for me!  When we realized the error of our communication, I was infuriated.  “What?!?!  We cannot paint two walls and just leave it!  We have a soccer game tomorrow (Sunday), and next weekend is a soccer tournament both days.  We won’t be able to paint again for two weeks, and if you think I am going to live with a partially painted room for that long, you are wrong, buddy!”  What followed was a small argument followed by Chris giving in to appease me.  We moved our heavy mattress out of the room and moved all of the furniture, and I began to cut in on the second two walls.  Exactly one minute later, Chris came to the room to let me know that soccer had been cancelled for Sunday.  As it turned out, we could have waited to paint the other two walls until Sunday, but had no idea at the time…. Oops!  On Sunday, I reminded Chris that he should be grateful to me because he now had a totally free day.  HAHAHA.  Thank goodness he loves me. Aaaaand thank goodness two coats were all this paint job required.

Before I get into more photos of this freshly painted space, here is a reminder of what it looked like with the previous owner’s green wall color.  I actually did like this color, but it was marked up in spots, and I had it in my mind that this room was going to be dark.

Modern Boho Bedroom

It truly wasn’t bad, but what I see now really makes me happy!

Moody Black Walls Bedroom

We still have things to do in this room, but today I want to share all of the details that are complete.  Last month I shared the progress of this space, but the paint really helps bring all of those details together. Above the bed, I hung our white faux taxidermy jackalope.  Chris and I have a little inside joke about the jackalope, so it’s a nod to that, and not just any random animal on our wall.

The bed was a new addition last month as well as we had been wanting a platform bed for a long time.  I loved the modern rustic appeal of this bed and knew it would look dynamite against a black wall. Modern Boho Bedroom, Black, White, wood

When we first bought the bed I thought I would have to lower the nightstands, but after living with them for a bit, I like them exactly where they are.  I also love these lamps, but I am considering replacing them with plug in sconces mounted a little higher.

Since my last update, I’ve also added some new pillowcases. Allison, owner of Modern Plum, sent me a pair of her beautiful Breton stripe pillowcases in charcoal. These pillowcases add the perfect classic, textural and graphic touch to our bedding situation.

Linen neutral pillow cases

I pulled them out front for a photo so you could see them a little better as well. The perpendicular stripe border adds the perfect subtle detail.

On the wall the bed faces, I had hung a gallery wall to help blend the TV.  Now that the wall is painted black, it blends in even more.  Also, 10 points if you can spot our baby monitor!

The blanket on the chair actually gets used every night and I just throw it there in the morning.  Our dogs sleep at the foot of our bed (on the floor) and love to snuggle our duvet.  I cover it with the blanket to protect it from getting too dirty.

On the wall that houses Chris’ dresser, there is plenty of white space with our closet which helps keep the room from feeling too dark.  I was actually quite happy with how light and bright this room still feels with its black walls, thanks to the windows, white bedding, and white closet.  Here you can see the green undertones of the wall color best as well, and just to the left sits the master bathroom.

Black Eclectic Vintage Bedroom

Looking out from the bathroom into the bedroom and vice versa, you can see these spaces are now cohesive in style and color palette.

These spaces are coming together and I couldn’t be happier with the progress!

Still on the to do list:

  • Paint the ceiling
  • Change out the ceiling fan
  • Change out the blinds to bamboo or wood blinds
  • Add curtains???  I am not 100% on this one yet.

Just to show you the ceiling and fan situation… here you go. 😉 You can’t see it as well here, but the ceiling has two shades of white on it, and that fan… what can I really say about that fan? You know, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

I will be sure to update you as we continue to make changes and make this space our own.  Little by little, with every painted wall, we are making this house our home and I’m excited to be sharing this adventure with you.

If you liked anything you saw today, here’s a shoppable gallery for you to peruse.  Have a great day!

P.S. I think the baby monitor is behind the Himalayan salt rock?

Hi! Loving your color choices. The Rock Garden you did in eggshell, but what about the Greenblack? Thanks!

Hi Anabel! Thank you so much- the greenblack is also eggshell/satin. I tend to use strictly that finish on my walls and semigloss on trim. 🙂
