Happy Friday! I am so excited because today it’s my turn to share part of my home in Kelly’s Eclectically Fall home tours, and I am going to give you a full tour of my front porch. If you are visiting from Brooklyn Limestone, welcome! Stephanie does Fall (Halloween especially!) so well so she is a tough act to follow. 😉
I participated in Kelly’s Eclectically Fall tour last year (you can see that tour here), and am honored to be back for round 2. This year, life has been pretty crazy busy and I decided to simplify this Fall. You won’t find any pumpkins or mums here; nor will you find traditional Fall colors. What you will find is an inviting porch, perfect for family dinners, cozy conversations, and my favorite blues and greens in Fall tones. I’ve used thrifted finds, flowers clipped from one of my Sweet Clover vendor’s homes (Thank you, Amy of Salvaged!), and mostly pieces I already had on hand to create a porch where our family can step away from the busy-ness that is life, soak in the views, and relax.
By our front entry, a chippy old teal window hangs over a brightly colored bench. My potted plant normally resides in the house, but since the weather has been warm, I’ve kept it thriving outside. (Thriving as opposed to barely hanging on which is what happens to most plants in my care). The stump table was an addition a couple years back, as was the Mexican blanket, which I used in last year’s Thanksgiving porch table. The floral patchwork pillow I made a few years back and I love the boho vibe it adds to this space.
The bull skull gets to change his look with the seasons, but he stays on the window. I found him last year at Sweet Clover from one of our vendors. If you look closely you can see his faded tribal paint. I’ve given him a cozy fall look with a tassel garland in navy and teal made by one of my very best friends who happens to own a fab etsy shop.
One of the most recent additions to the porch is my hammock which was my birthday gift from the family. We ordered this fringed hammock from Hayneedle and it has become my absolute favorite place to relax and, well, hang out. One morning last week while it was still dark it rained and I was up early. I turned on the porch lights, made myself a cup of coffee, and laid in the hammock listening to the rain fall. It was the most peaceful moment and what Fall mornings are made for.
The hammock hangs diagonally at the corner of our wraparound porch. For fall, I added a velvet squirrel pillow I found at Ikea, and a navy and green Mexican blanket I already owned.
Coming around that corner of the porch, our dining table sits. While it is still warm enough in th evenings, we love to enjoy family dinners on the porch.
I’ve adorned the table with a lace tablecloth that was my great grandmothers. It’s imperfect, has a couple of holes, and doesn’t quite fit the table exactly, but all of those factors give it the bohemian feel I love. On the center of the table I’ve placed a wood slide tray with a vintage milk bottle carrier my parents gave me a couple years ago. I placed amethyst colored glass vases from Ikea in 2 of the slots, filled with wheat I happened to find at the grocery store of all places. I added a green vase I had on hand and filled it with Fall hydrangeas, and then added candles to the other slots.
I love how these colors work well together for a non-traditional Fall palette.
To bring in some of my favorite hues, I added teal eucalyptus I also found at the grocery store. I scored these vintage green glass dishes at the thrift shop a few weeks ago and knew they would be perfect for my Fall table.
And finally, we have one more area of our porch I would love to show you. This past Spring we finally purchased real outdoor furniture from Target. It was such a worthwhile investment… when friends come over for wine, we inevitably end up sitting here, relaxing and chatting.
Sticking with the blues and greens I added a plaid blanket I found last year and used on my Fall table. The denim pillows came from Ikea and the green pillows were hand me downs from a friend.
I’ve hung a thrifted owl painting to bring in a Fall feel, and added a Mexican pitcher and tray I found at a yard sale, filled with hydrangeas.
I love that this pitcher brings a bit of that boho vibe to this area, and even brings in the right colors.
Under the bench which serves as a coffee table, I’ve placed a bushel basket full of apples.
We are fortunate to have an apple tree in our yard, and a friend of mine is going to help me make apple sauce, but for now the basket of apples brings in a nice pop of color.
Check back with me next week and maybe I will have some warm apple crisp for you, too. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit with me on my Fall porch today. And thank you so much to Kelly for organizing the tour again this year and inviting me to be a part of it!
Now please make sure to stop by and see Melinda at House 214. This blog was a new to me one, and I am in love with her gorgeous home- you will be, too!
