One of my all time favorite garage sales finds is a pair of antique windows I found. I know old windows are a dime a dozen, but these were unique in the hardware they still had in tact- cool old hinges as well we some hook looking thingies at the bottom (I am fairly certain that is the technical term for them). They were the perfect size to use in my sitting room and frame some family pictures. Here is a rundown of what I did…
I measured the glass panes and selected 8 vertical photos I wanted to frame. On my computer I formatted the pictures to measure up with the dimensions of the panes, cropping as necessary. Once that was done I took a CD of the photos to my local photo shop- Severna Park Photo- and had them print them for me. Once they were printed, I did have to trim them a bit, so I used a straight edge from sewing and a rotary cutter to get a nice straight cut. I then cut a piece of thin cardboard (I used diet coke boxes) to serve as backings. I had planned on using framer’s points to hold the photos in, but they wouldn’t go into the old wood, so I had to be really handy and use my engineering skills…. duct tape to the rescue! Yes, they are duct taped onto the back, but can you tell? Nope! Here is what they look like in my home. Oh, and that other cool shaped window was also a garage sale find for $2! Check out all the chippy paint and old hardware galore, and of course, pictures of my adorable kids. π
