Today I am honored to be guest hosting a new monthly series called My 5 Favorites put together by Kris at Driven by Decor, Jennifer at Dimples & Tangles, Pam at Simple Details, and Lisa at Shine Your Light. This series will take place on the first Tuesday of each month, and includes a fun instagram challenge (Details at the end of this post)! The theme this week is “paint colors,” which they thought would be perfect for me because paint is one of my favorite things in the world! Paint and ice cream, actually, but not together. Maybe next month they’ll invite me back to share my five favorite ice cream flavors, but for now let’s talk my five favorites: paint colors.
My favorite colors may or may not surprise you. As much as I love to use fun colors when I paint furniture, the colors I surround myself with are neutrals and shades of blue. These are in no particular order, but I selected them because they are colors I have chosen over the last 4 years in our home and have not had the desire to remove or repaint after a short time (which has been known to happen!).
1. Clark & Kensington White Opal
This color is the perfect white in our home… it’s not too bright or sterile and it’s got a slight warm undertone. I’ve used this color on my kitchen walls, my dining room walls, hallway, and Emmy’s room.
2. Clark & Kensington Midnight Stroll
This is the perfect black for walls… It’s moody and dramatic, but slightly warm so it leaves the room with a cozy feel. We painted our guest room in this shade, and it’s one of my favorite spaces in my home. If I didn’t already have a black guest room I would have been tempted to paint our master bedroom the same color.
3. General Finishes Lamp Black
This black is the perfect black for furniture! It’s a true black and has a great smooth finish and durability. Of course, I have used it on more than furniture because I love it so much. My fireplace actually got a lamp black makeover.
4. General Finishes Coastal Blue
Coastal Blue has been a furniture favorite of mine for several years now. One of my most popular dresser makeovers was done in this color.
It’s a beautiful dark blue, and after having a long love affair with it, I decided to paint my kitchen cabinets with it. I am happy to say the paint has held up beautifully over the last 2 1/2 years.
5. General Finishes Antique White
Whites on furniture can be very tricky. General Finishes Antique White is not so much what you think when you think “antique white.” It’s truly a warm white and what I think to be the perfect furniture white. I used it just this past weekend on two pieces I am bringing to my shop. In my own home, it’s the white that I used to give Emmy’s midcentury dresser a fresh modern look.
Now it’s your turn to show us your favorite paint colors! Post a picture on instagram with #myfivefavorites by Thursdayat 8 pm and we will share our favorite on Friday! I am posting a picture on instagram this morning with all of the details, so be sure to check it out!
Now make sure you visit Kris, Jennifer, Pam and Lisa to see their favorite paint colors!
