Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend! I worked all weekend at Sweet Clover and we had our first S-N-O-W sighting Sunday… say what?!?! It is too early for that, ya hear me? This year I’ve been so busy with work that I honestly thought I would just sort of skate over Halloween decorating, and maybe the kids wouldn’t notice. Well, my kids have been well trained to know that I like, no love, Halloween and the fun decor that comes with it. They kept asking me when I was going to decorate and I kept skirting the question. A week and a half ago, on a Thursday, I was cleaning the house before the kids were due to arrive home from the bus. I realized that we had no activities that evening, and decided it would be the perfect time to bring on the Halloween. We worked only with items we already had on hand, and added some simple touches indoors so now I can bring you my Halloween home tour.
On the porch every year we hang our “Dead & Breakfast” sign that my neighbor made for us, inspired by a home I saw years ago in Better Homes & Gardens.
The dining table also got some simple touches, like my creepy black dollar store mesh runner fabric thingy (official term from the packaging), my silver glitter skull candlesticks, picked up on clearance at Marshalls years ago, and some bare branches from the yard. I also added a dollar store crow to my birdcage candelabra.
Behind the table against the house sit crates where we stack our firewood. You can see it peeking through in the photo above. On the crates Emmy placed the fairy pumpkin house we created last year, along with the bird nest pumpkin we made at the same time.
We have a little fairy statue as well as some fairy houses Emmy has created at a local garden center, so they all work well together for a little magical fairy Halloween fun.
Emmy added a couple little ghosts to her fairy house pumpkin, so now it’s a haunted fairy house.
Out in our front garden we added a plywood graveyard I made for the kids a few years ago. Emmy painted a minion pumpkin at our local Harvest Festival, and I thought perhaps Waldo might appreciate it.
Inside the house, we kept the Halloween touches super simple. The mantle stayed exactly the same as it has been all Fall but I added a bat book page banner I created a few years back.
The banner worked so well with the existing black and white I already had going on… so why change it up too much, right?
The living room coffee table was the perfect place to add our Halloween Tree. The kids love to put this little tree and ornaments from Michael’s out every year… it’s become a tradition.
It sits on the coffee table right next to my black and white tribal bear.
When we first moved into this house (in the month of October) a very sweet friend sent me a package containing Halloween decor since we were still surrounded by boxes. These bats were in the package and have moved all over the house at Halloween. Currently, they are in a mad flurry above our leather chair. (Mad flurry meaning stuck randomly to the wall by an 8 year old).
The chalkboard received a simple creepy monster face, and Emmy added a crow to the deer antlers. Oh, and you might spy a new lumbar pillow…. I purchased it from my pal Brittany‘s new shop, The Vintage Rug Shop.
Heading out of the living room, our small entry features a live edge shelf. I added a little skeleton I found at an auction in a box I won, and “Beware” blocks I found on clearance years ago at Marshalls.
Our dining room, like the living room, stayed the same as our Fall tour minus a couple of Halloween touches.
The centerpiece I created with stripped antique furniture pieces was “Halloween’ed” with black owls.
The sideboard also received some Halloween visitors in the form of black rats.
In the kitchen our island is keeping an eye on things. I made these eyeballs 4 years ago, and I still love to haul them out. Their green color happens to work nicely with the hydrangeas as well. 😉
The island also features a Pumpkin candle holder that’s been infested with small rats and glittering spiders.
I hope you enjoyed our Halloween tour, and I hope you aren’t too scared to come back… After all, we do have vacancy.
