My New Sideboard

I have been staying up all night every night scouring craigslist and searching high and low in every thrift shop in a 100 mile radius patiently waiting to find a sideboard for our dining room.  I know many of you liked the green piece that I was using (borrowed from my inventory), but it was not me.

It did look great with the gray, but again, just not me, and I wanted more storage as well and a true vintage piece, which this was not.  So I searched and searched and came up empty.  My good friend Emily found the perfect piece on craigslist for $75.  It was located near her so she even offered to pick it up for me since I couldn’t get out that way with Emmy in the car, too.  So, being the amazing friend she is (seriously, everyone needs an Emily, kind of like everyone needs a Sven– click on the link if you don’t know what I am talking about!), Emily picked it up and brought it home.  She was even going to bring it to me when we got together to craft the following week, but she got sick.  Chris went and picked it up from her when he was in her area and brought it home last week.  Here is the before….

Dutch Boy was kind enough to provide me with a couple of gallons of paint.  One of the choices I made was Lake Champlain in a satin finish, as I knew I would use it on the piece I finally would get for the dining room.  I sanded the piece, primed it, and gave it two coats of the paint.  This was my first experience with Dutch Boy paint, and it went on beautifully- the coverage was perfect and the finish smooth.
Once the paint dried, I distressed it with my electric sander and by hand in some areas where there was more detail.  Then I went over all of it with Minwax Golden Oak stain, rubbing on with one rag and off with another.
I had planned on using the original hardware, but I really didn’t care for the knobs on the doors.  They are the small kind that have a backplate and always make me think boobies.  Sorry.  So I couldn’t keep those.  I thought I would keep the drawer pulls only, but the metal was a weird silver non brass finish that I couldn’t match, so I just replaced all of them.  The pulls I used are drop pulls I purchased several months ago on clearance form Anthropologie.  I love the classic look they add and I actually really like the black accents.  Here it is now!

Now that is SO much more me!!!
Happy Monday!

Gorgeous!! I have one very similar (which is right in front of me as I write this comment)…that I found on CL and had painted glossy white…it holds our flatscreen as I am too much of a wimp right now to drill into the plaster walls we just had repaired:) It works perfectly! Love the color you chose. Take care, Caroline
