Yesterday I shared with you one of my favorite recent furniture makeovers, a unique white, wood, and gold midcentury dining table. I promised today I would show you how I styled it for our Sweet Clover tablescape contest, as well as some photos of the rest of my space since the sale is coming up this weekend. (If you’re local, come see me Saturday from 9-3!) I created the theme of my table based on what I had in my inventory which was a lot of brass, a lot of woven, and a couple sets of non-coordinating dish ware. I added to that natural touches such as feathers, dried lavender, fall foliage, and mini boo pumpkins to create a natural glam eclectic dining tablescape.
At the end of this post, I’ve placed a shoppable gallery with items similar to my tablescape should you wish to recreate any of it. These are affiliate links.
*One thing I do want to mention before I go on is that if you ever see anything in my space photos, I am happy to ship thing out (that are small enough) after the sale is finished. I happily sent a pennant pillow to a reader a couple of weeks ago. All you have to do it ask! I am not really using the etsy shop at the moment, so just email me at [email protected]
As you can see, I am letting the table really take center stage as it’s my favorite thing in my space this month. I’ve paired it with this metallic hide rug I wasn’t currently using. Hide rugs such as this are awesome for shops because they are so easy to clean…. you can literally just take them outside and hose them off, so I have no fear of it being ruined here.
On the table, I paired Indian Tree vintage ironware with blue willow ware for a splash of color and eclecticism (and because, TBH, that is what I had and I was determined to make it work!). I knew I wanted simple white napkins as the rest of the table was pretty busy, and the dishes brought in enough pattern for me, so I found these at a great price on Amazon. For place card holders, I purchased these wood slices, painted them with chalkboard paint, and Emmy wrote names and tied them on the napkins for me. (She was a HUGE help to me with finishing up this past Sunday!)
I love using fall foliage to bring the feel of the season into our own home (like I did here in my most popular tablescape ever and my personal favorite here.) At Sweet Clover, I used a fabulous tan and cream midcentury vase to hold my branches. To bring in more natural touches, I added in some wild turkey feathers that I’ve found on walks around here, dried lavender, and little white boo pumpkins. Woven textures bring in that earthy touch as well in the owl vessel as well as the basket tray.
No table of mine is complete without a hint of gold or brass, and on this table I added brass deer as well as lots of brass candlesticks featuring a mix of white candles and white pumpkins. To give the pumpkins a little something special, I used rub n buff to gild the stems. It just adds a subtle elegance to their already natural beauty.
Gourd vases on the other side add an earthy vibe with their naturally rich colors. I wasn’t sure about filling these with water… seemed like a really bad idea! Instead, they each got feathers.
All in all, I am really happy with how the table top came out. I had contemplated a runner or sheepskin to add a little texture, but when I tried it, I felt it distracted from the base of the table, and I really wanted the table itself to be the showstopper and not hidden under too much.
Now that I’ve shown you my tablescape, let me take you on a little tour of the rest of the space. Just behind the dining table is a stack of two midcentury dressers in black and white. I shared the black one here, and the white one won’t be getting a post… it started out white when I got it, but the paint job wasn’t great so I smoothed it out and reprimed and painted it. The before and after doesn’t make for an exciting blog post even though it’s finish is better now.
On top of the white dresser is the black and brass vintage nightstand, as well as a sweet little pink demilune that I found just like that. My space is on the smaller side, so I stack it up as high as I can! And if you need any vintage houseplant books, I am the lady to see!
Earlier this month I shared a gray farmhouse style dresser makeover, and that piece made it in with a bit of a seascape gallery wall around it. (Yes, I am parting with much of my collection…. I don’t need them. I don’t. Stop it. I just don’t. Oh my gosh what have I done.)
Just last week I found this fantastic seascape that brought in the colors of Fall and I knew it was the perfect final touch for this wall.
On top of the dresser are some brass finds that I have to credit Emmy for. She spied both the pineapple bookends as well as the turtle magnifying glass.
Also on top of the dresser, I’ve used a wooden cubby piece to give me more layers, and the crowning touch is an aqua glass bottle with foliage (still a little green here at the moment!). Brass nautical pieces such as dolphins and an anchor candle holder help bring it all together with a beachy fall feel.
On the opposite side of the space, there’s a window which always gives me the hardest time when it comes to photos…. this particular spot troubled me when I owned Sweet Clover and boggles me still. Disregard the quality of these photos, because I really wanted to show you the pieces I’d found.
This long wood midcentury dresser has a gorgeous rich wood tone, and even has a nightstand that coordinates perfectly with it.
The other two nightstands you see received paint makeovers.
I found a bunch of paint by numbers last weekend, and thought these fit the fall vibe of my space right now. I am always a sucker for paint by numbers… I love the idea of someone at home who might be a banker, a salesman, a child, a stay at home mom sitting there playing with a paint by numbers kit.
I had a set of 12 of the vintage amber glasses on the table, so I placed extras in a bamboo serving tray by a large amber bottle with more fall foliage. Amber glass catching the light always seems so glowing and magical.
Another new piece this month is this antique ladder and the vintage guatemalan blanket (which took some willpower to put in the space and not in my home!).
After I shot this photo, I found one more very cool canteen with a southwestern boho vibe, and added it to the ladder as well.
Another new addition to my space this month is belly baskets! I am excited to bring these stylish and useful, fair trade baskets to my space. Both natural and black are available, and one might just have an awesome vintage kilim runner in it at the moment. This one sits atop a little white milking stool, and to the right you can see I have a few of the pennant pillows I made left. (You can find that tutorial here).
That’s almost everything! Of course there is more than I can show you in all of these photos, and additionally about 20 other vendors bringing in fabulous vintage goods! Come by Sweet Clover this weekend and shop your heart out!
