New Ceiling Fan in the Master Bedroom

“New Ceiling Fan in the Master Bedroom” is in collaboration with Lamps Plus.  I was provided with a new fixture but not otherwise compensated.  All photos and opinions are my own.

Ceiling fans in the bedroom are one of those hot topics that people seem to feel pretty strongly about.  And to be honest, aesthetically I have always preferred the look of a bedroom with a gorgeous chandelier.  However, a good night of sleep trumps pretty much all design decisions in my opinion.  We live in a small Cape Cod style home and if you’ve ever lived in one, you know what that means in the warmer months; the sun beats down on that room, and the heat radiates right into those upstairs spaces, leaving them muggy and hot, even with the AC cranking.  When we moved into this house 4.5 years ago we inherited the ugliest upstairs ceiling fan/light fixtures.  I am sure that back in their 1985 hay day, they were something to look at, but in 2016 they are cringeworthy.  Thankfully, Lamps Plus offers a wide variety of ceiling light/fan combination fixtures in many styles that will work with my aesthetic.  Lamps Plus Ceiling Fan in Modern Boho Master BedroomPinNow, you might not recall the ugliness that was in its place before we changed it out because I often just cropped it right out of my photos.  Luckily, I have this photo from about the time we moved in, which will also make the after so much more dramatic!  Check out a glimpse of the fixture we had….master beforePinAt the end of last summer it started to swing a little when it was turned on, so we could only turn it on very low… the hot nights were a little stuffy and uncomfortable.  It was definitely time to replace it for one that was more stylish period and functioned properly.  Lamps Plus had so many options, but immediately I had to narrow it down to those that would fit with our lower ceilings.

I selected the Casa Elite Oil-Rubbed Bronze LED Hugger Ceiling Fan.  I had contemplated something white, but in the end I loved the look of this finish with the current look of the bedroom and knew it would also work with anything we change in the future.Casa Elite Oil Rubbed Bronze Ceiling Hugger from Lamps PlusPinNote: This was our first experience ever working with electricity.  In all of our years of home ownership, Chris and I had never changed out a fixture!  Because this was our first time, we took our time, and were a little slow.  The good news is we have two more to change out, so hopefully I will be able to give you a more of a peek of the process next time.  This time, you’ll just have to enjoy a before and after!

Anyhow, I don’t plan on changing our curtains or curtain rod any time soon and I thought this fixture would perfectly complement those.Modern Bohemian Bedroom with Lamps Plus Fan/Light ComboPinIt also works well with the rug we have in this space… the oil rubbed bronze leaning more towards a dark brown than a black.Modern Bohemian Bedroom with Lamps Plus ceiling fan/light comboPinNo more artfully cropping out the fixture to hide its ugliness from my readers!Modern Bohemian Bedroom with Lamps Plus Light/Fan comboPinAnd no more checking the mirror to make sure it isn’t reflected.  Now I am happy to see its reflection in my photos.Modern Bohemian Bedroom with Lamps Plus fan/light fixturePinThis entire space now feels so restful, and when the warm nights come our way, we will be prepared for them.  Modern Bohemian Bedroom with Lamps Plus Ceiling Light/FanPinAnd while we’re here I wanted to share with you a couple of minor dresser styling updates as well.  A friend of mine was cleaning out and recently gave me an old printer’s tray.  I had been actually looking for one to organize my smaller jewelry so I was very excited about it!  I ordered some air plants and added them to the mix as well.  (Also hanging on the antlers is my Mother’s Day gift- a beautiful necklace from local artist Erica Burns Designs featuring three crystals.  Emmy selected it to represent her, Sawyer, and Chris.)Modern Bohemian Dresser Jewelry OrganizationPinThe tray couldn’t be more perfect because 7 is a very special number to me, and you see it reads “43” and 4+3=7.  Sawyer and I share 8/9 as a birthday and 8+9 is 17, and Emmy was born on 1/17/7 at 11:17, so I think of 1 and 7 as my numbers.Printers Tray with jewelry and air plantsPinOn the other side of the dresser, I finally found the perfect planter for my snake plant.  I had waited for months as it sat in its ugly plastic pot it came in!!!  This white one from Ikea fit the bill perfectly.Snake Plant on dresserPinThis space now feels pretty much exactly where I want it to be (aside from flooring!) and will be a comfortable refuge for us this summer, thanks to the new fixture from Lamps Plus.

Thank you to Lamps Plus for collaborating with me on this project.  All photos and opinions are my own.

I love how it looks with the rug. Ceiling fans are a must have in our house because I hate using the AC.

Yep, we can’t NOT have a ceiling fan in our bedroom – it’s totally an essential! I’ve been eyeing a few from Lamps Plus for the new place. The oil rubbed bronze looks SO GOOD in your bedroom!

Love it! And I love your printers tray and the 7 story :). Abe was 1/17 at 7 something in the morning, and he weighed 7 lb, 7oz, so he’s my 7 baby, too!

If I had to have one, I’d want it to be this one. Or rattan. You think rattan ceiling fans exist? I sure hope so!
