New Curtains! And Some Other Little Tidbits

March 24, 2011 by Cassie 26 Comments

A while back I posted about the chair makeover my mom helped me with using dropcloths. I mentioned in that post that I wanted to get some new curtains for my little sitting area. I thought about these (now on clearance at Urban Outfitters!)…

… but the reviews they had were not all that great, and I was nervous about ordering them.  Then it hit me that the curtains from West Elm I have in the dining room might also look great here, and the two rooms connect, have the same wall color, so the flow would be great.  Here is the dinind room to refresh your memory…

I waited and waited, knowing West Elm had had them for a while, and knowing they would go on sale.  Finally, last week, they went on clearance!  I ordered these curtains right away, and am so happy I did! They are the sheer chevron panels in frost (a warm and soft gray). Here they are hanging in the space.  And yes, my tulips are totally dying.  Oops.

Here is a shot showing the two rooms connecting… and some lovely cardinal paintings by my children.

I am really happy with it all, and am very happy with the curtains!
Now, onto some other things… Remember that extra cute little orange bird print I received the other day from Valentina Designs? Well, I found the perfect home for it on the shelf in the half bath off my bedroom. I get to wake up now each morning and see “You are awesome” greeting me. Such a happy punch of color, too!

And finally, I won that adorable pillow cover from A Sort of Fairytale. From the online image I had seen I thought it was going to be more antiquey-looking, but to my pleasant surprise, the colors were vibrant, and fun!  I brought it to Emmy’s room to see if I liked it on her bed, and I loved it!  So here it is on her bed…

Well, that’s all for house updates as of now.  It has been a crazy week.  We started t-ball practices and I am coaching again.  Sawyer recited a poem at school today, and did a beautiful job!  Tonight he heds off with Gramma to see Shrek the Musical, while Emmy and I head to dance class.  Chris has travelled a lot this week and I have worked a lof of early mornings, so I am beat!  Looking forward to finally putting my feet up tomorrow evening and getting in some relaxation.

I love the curtains and so many other things in your house! I love the two hutches in the dinning! It balances them out and its such a good idea. Quick question: How do you measure out your curtains to windows? I have many windows in the house with just blinds right now and I want to start choosing curtains and I am not sure the ratio between fabric width and window.

It all flows so nicely together with the same curtains. They are really great looking too. I do like that chevron pattern. Might be an idea for my teens room.

I’m still catching up on blog-reading but I just had to say how lovely and understated those new curtains are, Cassie! They look perfect in the dining room! Also, that pillow cover in Emmy’s room looks like a Cath Kidston fabric. 🙂 Though the prints have an old-fashioned feel, they are bright and cheery which makes for a fun combination.
