Happy Sunday! I don’t normally post on Sundays, but I think it’s a good day for the book club posts moving forward (or at least during this busy season!).
For November, it was Brenda’s turn to select the book and she chose The Good Girl by Mary Kubica. I was really looking forward to this one…. it sounded interesting and the cover lured me in. (I read most books digitally now, but I spied the cover on Amazon.)
November was such a busy month at work, that I really waited until the last minute to read this book and panicked that I would not finish it in time. I started reading it last Monday night, and by the third night, it was done! It sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down.
The Good Girl follows the story of Mia aka Chloe, who goes missing. She’s a young woman, art teacher, daughter of a wealthy and prominent judge, and sister to a lawyer. We see this story told from several perspectives including her mother, her kidnapper, and the detective on the case. We never hear the story through Mia’s own thought, but rather hear everyone else’s perceptions of her. We get to know her best through her kidnapper and through her mother, who really doesn’t know her very well either. Although a dark and mysterious tale, it’s also somewhat of a love story. This book took many unexpected twists and turns and kept me guessing and reading until I knew what truly happened. I LOVED it and strongly recommend it! Great pick, Brenda!
For December, Kirby has chosen a memoir.
I am looking forward to something different this month! (Though I always love my dark novels with mystery and a bit of love as well!)
Be sure to check out everyone else’s review of The Good Girl. I will add the links as soon as they publish. 🙂
