It’s time to for October’s book club book review. In October, Katie from On the Banks of Squaw Creek told us she wanted to select something that wasn’t as dark as some of the previous months- she chose The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry: A Novel
by Gabrielle Zevin.
I was prepared to enjoy this lighthearted story, although imagined it would be rather predictable and an easy quick read. Well, it was an easy and quick read and I did enjoy it, but it was not what I had expected!
The premise is a bookstore owner, AJ Fikry, is a lonely man who has lost his wife; a baby is left in his store one day with a note. So of course in my mind the story was, lonely man and abandoned baby form bond and relationship and all is well. So I won’t lie…. that’s part of it. But there are many twists and turns that kept me reading and guessing! And some characters become so much more than you ever think they are…. totally worth the read, and not as light hearted as I had expected, more bittersweet.
For November, it was Brenda’s turn to select and she has chosen…..
I can’t wait to dive into this one!
Happy reading!
