October Snow

It was absolutely insane!  We got something like 6-8 inches of snow here in Western Maryland!  I snapped some photos to share the craziness.  And let me say that snow and leaves still on trees do not mix well… the branches were so heavy with snow.  We even lost a tree!  That wasn’t the only thing we lost…. POWER.  Our power went out yesterday before lunch.  I cooked grilled cheese for the kids for dinner on the grill and even made italian wedding soup on the grill!  After dinner, we all gathered around the fire and played trouble and connect 4. And we all went to bed early…. the kids at 7:15, and I was in bed at 8:45!!!  It was so nice, honestly!  The power kicked back on around midnight and I thought we were in the clear… until I was in the shower around 9:30 am this morning and the power went out.  We are on well water, so I hurried to wash my hair and get out!  My hair is clean but my legs are hairy.  Oh well.  Anyhow, the power finally came back on around 5:45 pm.  Yay!  In the meantime I painted the guest room trim and walls, and the kids went to a local church Halloween event with neighbors.  Crazy, busy, snowy weekend here!

Wow, it just seems too early, especially with the leaves weighing down with snow. Glad your power is back on, and not looking forward to snow. At least for a while.

I love how you make these inconveniences into fun memories with your kids! You may not even remember them, but they will. My 25 year old son has mentioned recently about when I made dinner in a power outage and we ate by candle light. He wants my recipe! I can’t even remember the event, let alone the recipe. I’m glad he does, though. 🙂

Oh how funny to get snow so soon after you move into your new home! We had snow just before we left NZ, a really decent lot of it too…the most since 1994 or so…it is not common to get much snow where I was. I was so glad the kids got to experience it before we moved to Australia…living in a subtropical climate now, I don’t expect we’ll see snow here (just very regular electrical storms, which the kids are scared of but I think they are really exciting, lol!)

I was at a luncheon in your neck of the woods yesterday, and I was amazed at the snow! As soon as we crossed the Prince William/Loudon county line (in Va.) we saw a bit of snow in shady areas. The farther north we went, the more snow we saw. I’m quite thankful for warm roads that melted and the hwy department for making our trip a safe one. (Sledding before Halloween is weird.)

Wow, I’m only about 15 minutes from you and the snow there accumulated much more than ours. Even though it snowed most of the day, it was really wet and didn’t stick to the ground very well. PERFECT excuse for staying in my sweats and not leaving the house!

Well now you know how pretty your house looks in snow!! Sounds like you made the best of it and enjoyed this freaky Halloween snowfall! We had fun too even without power….the kids are so excited to have an unexpected day off from school but the only snafu is the town announced we’ll save trick-or-treating until Friday just to make sure everyone is back in power. So wacky isn’t it? Happy Halloween to you and your little ones!

I grew up in Scotland but then moved to Africa and now Australia so I haven’t seen snow in years:( It looks like you had a wonderful time and made the most of a difficult situation. It is 32 degrees C here today. Send us some snow!!God bless x
