Hey guys! I am back again today because I wanted to share some exciting news… I will be linking up at the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda at Calling it Home this fall! This will be my first time ever participating and I am excited (and a little afraid!) to jump aboard and tackle a new project.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure that I would be able to participate but really wanted to. And I wasn’t even sure what room I would do. Earlier this summer, I had a room in mind, but plans changed. Well fast forward to August and I casually mentioned to Emmy, “Dad and I think one day it would be great to make the guest room yours; it’s larger than your current room, has two closets which a teenage girl would love, and even has its own bathroom.” She looked at me with wide eyes and said, “Can we do it now?!” The deal was that she had to keep her current room clean in order to get the larger one. To be honest, that didn’t happen, but it was certainly an improvement. And I know where she gets her habits from, so I can’t blame her. (If you guessed Chris you are right.. 😉 Kidding! My parents can tell you stories of my messy past.)
Last month she and I spent time poring over colors, and existing pieces in the room; as it turned out, she actually wanted to keep much of the room’s existing furnishings. If you’re new here, here’s a look at the current space:

Emmy went through the room and pointed out the things she’d like to stay, and we talked about furniture arrangement, but things are subject to change as we start bringing in some of her pieces as well. So our plan is a very loose plan with an overall vibe that we’re going for. Some decisions we aren’t totally sure of yet, but the major ones are… aqua paint, Mexican textiles, and plants galore. My little girl specifically told me she wants lots of plants and she wants a “Mexican boho space.” I put together a mood board while she was at school one day, and when she came home it met her approval; so here’s the plan:

As you can see, the desk, dresser, rug, bed (similar here), bedding (similar here) we are planning to keep, but just move around a little. (And the rug will really depend on how it all looks when we paint the walls, so it may have a little swaperoo with another rug in our home). We’ll also be bringing in several things, some new and some we already have. Her vintage hanging chair (similar here) was a must to move from her existing space. We’ll be adding in this blanket that we ordered from Amazon, vintage bark cloth Mexican art I won at an auction (similar to this), pillows from Del Mex, a vintage mirror like this that I had at Sweet Clover, a vintage Moroccan style light I already owned (like this one), a vintage stool (like this) we already owned for the desk, a vintage trunk I scored just like this one… it opens and folds down so we’re hoping to make it into a dog bed for Snowball.
There are still several uncertainties about the space including window treatments, what to hang over the bed, and how the trunk will work (where we wanted to put it has a floor vent). But I just plan to roll with it as we go, one step at a time. I’ll be picking up the paint this weekend and once we get that going onto the walls, I am sure my vision will be clearer. Or not. But either way, I invite you to follow along. Also check out all of the other linking participants as well as the designers over at Calling it Home. Cheers!
