Hello friends! Can you believe the One Room Challenge Fall 2019 is in the home stretch?! I am so excited to see all of the spaces that the designers have created as well as those of the guests. All of the items that we’ve ordered for this space have started to arrive and it’s been an utter joy to watch it all come together and see how each element truly works with one another to create a unique space that suits our home. We’ve certainly had some hiccups and stressful moments as well, but it wouldn’t be the ORC without them. 😉 Today, you are going to get a pretty decent sized sneak peek of what’s coming next week because I am going to show you some of the elements that have arrived and been put in place. Before we move on, let’s revisit that original plan so that you can see what I was going for. (This blog uses affiliate links).
OK, do you remember that? Now let’s see how close we are getting, shall we? I want to start with the story of our new dining table. Do you believe in manifesting? I 100% do because it has worked in my life so many times. (You can read my powerful story here.) I don’t often practice it, but I really should more often because the results always blow my mind. As I was preparing for this One Room Challenge, I was on the lookout for a new dining table. I loved the one we had, but it was too large for the space. I wanted another live edge table because I love the organic and earthy vibe they bring to a space. After reaching out to a couple of companies for potential collaborations, I did not heard anything back. As the timing would have it, I had just finished reading the book You are a Badass which reminded me of how powerful manifestations can be, so I decided to give it a whirl again. I sat quietly, and positively asked the universe for the right table to come my way. Some of you are currently thinking that I am absolutely nuts, and you would not be incorrect, but wait! Read on to have your mind blown before you walk away shaking your head at me.
The very next day, I received a message in my instagram inbox from Jared, who has a business creating custom live edge tables and more. He wanted to know if I might be interested in collaborating. I kid you not! I thanked the universe for delivering Jared and his talent to me, and replied that I would indeed and let him know what project I had in mind. He was immediately on board and we worked together to create a plan for a custom table for our dining space. The best part is that Jared was kind enough to deliver it himself, driving it here this past weekend all the way from Alabama. Are you ready to see his masterpiece?
It is absolutely the perfect size for this space, and I am in love with the look! Jared used a walnut slab that had some void spaces. I selected a gold resin fill to complement the gold in the light fixture as well as the kitchen fixtures and appliances.
Here is a look at what the resin looks like up close.
Those little specks you can see on the top are actually old nails, so old that they didn’t spark at all when this table was sanded. Jared offered to dig them out for me, but I suggested that they brought vintage character and history to the table.
Just look at those gorgeous edges! This table is one of a kind, and I am so happy that I get to be its owner!
When it came to selecting the base for the table, I knew I wanted a modern X base because we needed something that would allow us to scoot in on the bench without hitting our knees. Jared has a good friend who creates metal bases for him, and he made this black metal X base for this table. He also does custom work, and I am extremely impressed with his creation. I knew I wanted metal and not wood for the base, and he really blew me away!
As you can see, the table already started to breathe some warmth and life into this space.
Now I want to share with you an epic part of this space… the mural! I am so excited to have partnered with Anewall on this project because when I saw their “Celeste” mural, I just had that gut reaction that it was “the one.” I was so excited to finally unwrap and unroll it this past weekend.
I loved the colors and how it would play off of what we are doing in our kitchen as well as bringing in the pink from our front door. I did hit some bumps while hanging this mural, not at all at fault of Anewall, but something that happened with our walls, and a little bit of user error, but I am going to save those details for a separate post after the big reveal so I can include more photos. For now, I just want to show you the overall impact it has on this space. This photo was taken quickly with my phone, and I definitely am far from perfect in my mural execution, but man oh man, do I love it! You can see a couple of places where my design didn’t quite line up perfectly, but I have a plan to try to fix that.
Finally, I also wanted to talk to you about the pillows for the banquette which have arrived. Again, I was very fortunate in that Victoria of Victoria Sturup reached out to me to see if I might be interested in collaborating. When she initiated the conversation, it was this summer, so I suggested we wait until the One Room Challenge because I knew I would need pillows for our banquette. I selected 4 from her shop and they also arrived this weekend! I don’t want to give too much away today because I feel like I’ve already shown you too much, so I am going to share with you a photo of the pillows I selected on Victoria’s bed.
Can you just picture them with that mural? I’ve seen it all together with my own eyes, and it’s pretty glorious, if you ask me.
And lastly, I want to show you our banquette cushions which just arrived yesterday! I discovered Ruhani of Naptimes & Notions via my Nextdoor app where I posted that I was looking for someone to make us a custom banquette cushion. She was recommended by someone in my area, and I decided to reach out to her. I am so glad that I did for so many reasons, including the fact that she’s a mompreneur, creative and super sweet, and that she can ship custom banquette cushions which is HUGE for all of you! (Hold on, because she gave me a coupon code to share, too!). Lastly, I am thrilled that I stumbled upon Naptimes & Notions because the cushion came out exactly how I dreamed it would be! Are you ready to catch a peek of that? (PS- below you can see that seam of the paper I really messed up, but I’ve got an idea to correct it so stay tuned.)
The faux leather we used is just perfect, and the cushion looks just amazing! I am THRILLED. I really wanted the look of leather, but leather can be a challenge for machines, so I sourced this faux leather on amazon and had it shipped to Ruhani. Yesterday was the first time I saw it in person, and goodness, I couldn’t be happier! The price point was perfect for my budget, too.
Here is a little peek of the mural with the cushion, but just wait until you see the full effect next week! OH I can’t wait to share!!!
As I mentioned above, Ruhani has been kind enough to offer my readers a coupon code. If you are looking for a custom banquette cushion, I cannot recommend her enough. Her work is just beautiful and timely. Head to Naptimes & Notions and use code CASSIE25 to receive $25 off your order.
Alright, friends! This update will be the last until the final reveal next week. This weekend, I am going to yell like a maniac for everyone to clean, hang my blinds which I am praying arrive soon, and take some photos to share this space with you. This One Room Challenge round has certainly had some hiccups and moments along the way, but I feel like I am seeing it all come together now, and that has me more excited than stressed, which is a welcome feeling right now. 😉
