Opening an Etsy Shop- Sneak Peek!

Several years ago, I joined etsy and had plans to open a shop with all my finds.  A lot has happened since then!  I got a space at a store which led to owning my own store which led to selling my store.  And now I am back to where I started and will be opening an etsy shop.  It’s funny how that works, isn’t it? I’ve amassed several vintage items over the years, and decided it’s time.  The irony of last week’s post about shopping is not lost on me, but the truth is that I am still spending less, and not shopping so much; and just because I am, doesn’t mean that you have to or even want to.  Anyhow, I just wanted to get that off my chest.  However, if you are trying to kick shopping like I am, then stop reading now!  You have my permission.

Buuuuut….. if you do love vintage shopping and don’t plan on giving it up, I wanted to share with you some sneak peeks!  I’ve spent the last couple days photographing, measuring, and weighing almost 50 items.  Some you’ve seen in my own home and I’m trying to scale back on the stuff I have.  My goal is to have the shop open by the end of January, and if you want to stay tuned you can add it to your favorites here.  I’ve decided to keep the name of the shop as my own name, just like the blog, and have it all cohesive.  Here’s a little peek at what it looks like:Pin

And now, in case you are wondering what might be for sale, here’s a peek at some of the shop offerings coming soon!

You guys, it’s amazing how much inventory I’ve already hoarded in my basement stocked.  I am not going to lie though, the figuring out of shipping scares me.  I don’t want to overcharge, and I certainly don’t want to undercharge and lose money either.  If you have any tips, I am all ears!

Hope you have a great weekend!  We’re hosting 10 girls tonight, half of which are staying for a sleepover, to celebrate Emmy’s birthday.  I have a bottle of recovery wine waiting for Saturday night and some ear plugs on hand.  I’m ready.  Happy weekend!

I don’t have any tips on the shipping, but I sympathize with you. It’s the one thing that has held me back from actually opening an Etsy shop of my own. Maybe once you get if figured out, you’ll have a ready-made blog topic to share? Also, love those sailing ship bookends!

    First, congrats!!
I owned two Etsy shops at one time…one for vintage goods and the other for things I made from recycled vinatge goods and wood. I closed my Etsy shops last year, but I do remember reading that you can create a setting that will calculate shipping when people enter their zipcodes. Check on that and check the Etsy forums as they are a great help. Shipping was tough for me, but I just ended up calculating costs for CA and going with that. If it was too much of a disparity (more than $3) when it came down to shipping, I reimbursed people. Didn’t happen more than once or twice. Or send everything in flat rate boxes.

Paypal and scale are your biggest friend for shipping. I shipped fabric items that were not super heavy from my shop so I just used my food scale. Jst weight them and enter the weight with the packing materials and the price will be estimated once the buyer puts in their zip (of course if you ship flat rate priority no weighing required.) Then you print and pay for postage right from Paypal. You’ll get the hang of it pretty quick.

This is so exciting! I’ve tried doing a little Depop shop for vintage cutlery but don’t think it was the right place – should have really done it on Etsy I think. Might still do in the new year because I have way more vintage cutlery that I should haha! I can’t wait to see all the stock, so exciting!
Have a wonderful weekend too xx

Yay, congratulations! I’m excited to see your shop! I have a blog dedicated to opening and running an Etsy shop and a post dedicated to shipping: http://etsypedia.blogspot.com/2015/11/the-nuts-and-bolts-of-your-etsy-shop.html

I haven’t done much with this blog lately but there is a lot of good info there already!

How fun! I’ll have to get tips from you because my attic is stocked with vintage goodies I need to sell. We made a dent last January when I did the pop-up at Sweet Clover but there is still much more. Listing it all has been on my list my to-do list too.

What a fun new adventure!! I sold on ebay for 6 years. Get a digital scale and weigh your items packed and shipped. Then pop a post it note with the item number/description on the package. I only shipped priority towards the end, the boxes were free and it came with $50 insurance automatically. It kept tings much simpler and streamlined.

Sadly, while I enjoyed shipping global, I pulled back to US only at the end. The hassles with customs and people not wanting to pick up their packages because of customs fees being due, and then claiming “they didn’t get it”, being issued a full refund, including shipping, then taking those funds to go pick it up, got old, fast.

Wishing you much luck!! I’m sure you’ll have a great time sharing your distinct finds.

yeah, i was thinking of just shipping in the US to make it easier for me, especially starting out. I figure I can ship globally if someone messages me separately and we make certain agreements. and is that the flat rate shipping? i was considering that!
