Patchwork Vintage Pillows

Last weekend when Gwen was visiting I found a fabulous vintage patchwork coverlet at a yard sale for $4!
And guess what, according to Lauren at Baylor Says, patchwork is going to be a new trend, so I wanted to post this before the curve. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I knew I was going to make some pillows or something fun with it.  Last week, I was gifted with a couple of very rainy days that forced me to vacuum do laundry sew!  The coverlet had so many fun fabrics in it, but had several holes along seams, so I cut all of the pieces apart.  I then grouped them in 4’s to create some patchwork pillow covers, envelope style of course!  I am not the best seamstress, so I am not going to give you a tutorial because there are blogs out there that are much better suited for that, but I will at least share my covers. ๐Ÿ™‚  I made a total of 8 and then ran out of fabric I already had on hand to make the backings, so more will be coming!

I grouped my fabrics by colors for the most part.  Here are 4 that I created.  I also made another predominantly blue pillow cover, but it’s in my own room and will appear at the end of this post.

A close up of one of the really fun retro fabrics!

This fabric was in the bedspread in a variety of colors, and I thought it would be fun to group them.

Here are a few others- the color sin the bottom two take my back to my grandparents house!

Ah yes, Nana…. this would have looked good in your family room.

And of course, the keeper for me!

It has the blues as well as the teams of my new dresser, and some orange hints as well…. perfect!

So… these will soon be for sale!  Announcement coming tomorrow! Sharing here: freckled laundryit all started with paint

that is so fabulous! What a great find.

My grandmother had a great collection of homemade quilts when I was growing up, but unfortunately when her Alzheimers started she began to literally throw away everything in her house (my mom’s wedding dress, two hundred year old family bibles, everything). The quilts were among the casualties, sadly.

But my mother has made some beautiful quilts that we use all the time. She saved favorite outfits for twenty years and made each of us a patchwork quilt out of school uniforms, birthday dresses, old hats, maternity clothes, etc.

You are always one step ahead of the curve on trends! Love those pillows!! And as a long time quilter I am thrilled that patchwork is coming back. It never really left my house, but how fun to know I won’t be out of date any longer!

Oh these turned out so cute! I love to hear that patchwork will be in because I have always been a fan, and I have lots of pillows and things around my house with patchwork pieces of fabric. I am inspired to make some more! What a deal you got on that coverlet. Love the one you are keeping, blues are so cute, and vintagey. -K
