This post, PetProof Bedroom Carpeting, is sponsored by The Home Depot. Although I am a huge fan of original wood floors, there is something to be said for carpeting in a bedroom. Stepping out of bed in the morning to feel the softness of carpeting under my feet makes for an easier wake-up transition. Of course, the downside of carpeting is the maintenance. As you can imagine, with three dogs, two of which have been through the puppy stage in this house, we’ve invested in our fair share of carpet cleaners, pet deodorizers, and baking soda over the years. To be honest, our bedroom carpeting in this house was terrible; it was old and stained, dry and scratchy. The cable to the TV ran under it, and made a lump… it was a hot mess! We had hoped to replace it when we moved in but the budget didn’t allow for it. In the mean time I’ve simply edited photos in the past it to hide stains, but I couldn’t edit them out in real life. When The Home Depot approached me to try out their new line of PetProof carpet from LifeProof, I couldn’t say “yes” fast enough. After reading about the carpet, it seemed like the perfect option for our family. Kids and dogs can make big messes, but this carpet will make those messes much easier to clean up.
Our family loves to spend time in our master bedroom. It’s the largest of the bedrooms with lots of room for all of us to hang out while we watch movies. Chris and I lay in bed and the kids bring in their sleeping bags and lay on the floor. In the past, we’ve left the dogs downstairs, gated off from the rest of us, and I’ve hated to do that because they are a part of our family, too. Now I am looking forward to letting them join us for our pajama movie nights.
Our master bedroom is a relatively neutral space with loads of texture and hints of blue for color. It’s one of my favorite rooms of the house because it’s serene, offers us all a sanctuary, and compared to the more lived in spaces it stays relatively tidy. 😉 When it came time to choose the new PetProof carpet, I was thrilled to find all of the great neutrals that were offered in this line.
I headed to my local Home Depot in Frederick where they have samples of each color and the various textures the PetProof line comes in. Because I still enjoy having an area rug to anchor my space, I wanted something soft, light, and without a pattern to the texture. After looking at all of the samples, I chose the Gazelle II in Dry Gourd which is a light beige with a cool tone to it, perfect for our space. The pile of the Gazelle II was the perfect height for the look I wanted.
Of course, in the store I had only touched it with my bare hands; I didn’t think the Home Depot wanted me taking my socks and shoes off to step on their samples. Once the flooring was installed, I was happily surprised with just how soft it feels under my feet. The difference between our last carpet and this is amazing!
When Emmy first entered out bedroom after installation last week, she exclaimed, “Wow! Your new carpet is so soft!” The softness is an added bonus to this flooring, because the best part for our family of course is that it is so pet friendly. PetProof carpet features Nanoloc spill and soil shield for quick and easy cleanup, and 0% moisture absorption to reduce pet odors in the fiber. While I am so thankful that our dogs have not yet tested that out, I did knock over a cup of water from Chris’ nightstand while preparing to take photos, and I was amazed at how nothing felt saturated… the clean up truly was easy and it dried quickly.
This 0% moisture absorption feature will be great for our bedroom in particular because we’ve got a bathroom vanity area that is carpet. Eventually we’d love to redo our bathroom, but for now it is what it is. This carpet will help keep the vanity area clean and free from germs. See it back there? I generally hide it from blog photos because it’s hideous!
A carpeted vanity area would not be my first choice, but this isn’t the first house we’ve lived in that had it. Our first house which was from the same era of construction featured the same. While I wouldn’t choose it, if you’re going to do it, this carpet is the best one to use for a vanity. (You can see where I removed the mirror and replaced it and told myself I would make this space look prettier…. 4 years ago. One day, my friends, one day.)
As I mentioned, the former carpeting was atrocious. No matter how much I cleaned it, the stains remained. And I could vacuum until the cows came home, but dog fur would still stick right to its coarse fibers. I’d vacuum, think it was clean, then Emmy would sit on the floor with her black leggings and I’d see how wrong I was when she’d stand up with fur all over her pants!
While Snowball, pictured above with Emmy, is a miniature Schnoodle and doesn’t shed, we’ve got two other dogs who shed enough for 10 dogs. Jake, our old man, tends to grow and lose fur very rapidly these days, which means it ends up all over our house. Catcher is a playful almost 3 year old Aussie-Weimaraner mix who also sheds his long fur.
There may have been a treat in her hand. As I said, this guy likes to play, so to get him to sit still for a photo, bribery works well. In action, it’s more like this, rolling and playing.
PetProof carpet makes it three times easier to clean up the dry things pets leave behind, too, such as dander, dirt, and fur. Now if I vacuum, the fur will actually come up! Emmy can sit on the floor in her black leggings safely post-vacuum.
The best part about this carpet for our family is just the fact that now we can once again be an entire family, pets included, in this space. Catcher was thrilled to come up here and play and roll around, although at first, he thought perhaps it was a trick as you can see by his doubtful expression below. He’s just looking at me here, expecting me to tell him to shoo.
We are all thrilled with the quality of this carpeting, and the effect it will have on our family. Movie nights in bed are awesome, but movie nights with the entire family, while the kids snuggle with their dogs are the best. Those moments are the ones the kids and I will remember forever, long after our pets are gone. And trust me… I’d much rather have those beautiful moments than those gross carpet stains to remember our pets by.
