Piece of Work Wednesday Furniture Link Party Number 66!

I have been so caught up in decorating the house, baking cookies, making gifts hat I bed you think I don’t even have any furniture to share this week…. well guess what!  I DO!  Next week might be another story.  Adorable Marlee and her husband (who are expecting their first baby next summer!) brought me this table to paint.  These are the photos Marlee sent me.

She wanted them painted with a warm white, and the top refinished in a darkish brown.  She chose Aged Oak Gel Stain by Minwax for the top, and I recommended Sherwin Williams Alabaster for the base, with a skim coat of Golden Oak by Minwax over that.

The top is made of plywood, so I told them I would do the best I could possibly do, but I have to admit that I had some doubts…
I sanded the top down and got rid of as many of the marks and stains I could- only one stain would not go away as it was too deep into the wood.  Once it was sanded and smooth, I applied a coat of the gel stain.  It only needed one coat as the color was nice and rich.  I then allowed that to dry and then applied two coats of Minwax wipe on poly with a rag.  Once that was dry, I worked on the base, which was primed, and then three coats of Alabaster were applied.  I then sanded the base to distress it.  Using two rags- one to wipe on, and one clean one to wipe off- I applied Golden Oak stain over the base.  And here she is now…

I have to admit it turned out so much better than I had expected.  Marlee had told me she thought if anyone could make it look good it was me- I loved her vote of confidence, but was worried!  When I sent her the pictures last week she said she could just hug me.  I always welcome hugs from pregnant ladies- they are all glowy and cute! 🙂

So what have you been up to?  I realize you are probably working on holiday stuff as well and might not have furniture to share.  It’s ok- you can at least visit all the awesome links!

RULES:
1. FURNITURE ONLY.  No crafts!
2. No etsy shops or the like.
3. Link back here by placing my button in your post or sidebar, or use a text link.
4. Must be a new post here…. do not link up something you already have linked up here.
5. Leave others some comment love!

Piece of Work Wednesday Furniture Link Party Number 53!

September 13, 2011 by Cassie 22 Comments

I am having so much fun out here in Cali!  Last night was karaoke night… SO much fun!  Let’s just say I may have made the wrong career choice and may be staying here to pursue my career in show biz.  Or not.  I will be sharing pictures from that later this week. 🙂

For now, I am sharing a before and after of a project I completed the morning I went to the airport so I would be ready for today.  I am sharing the full on how-to over at The DIY Club, but here is a quick before…

I had this pair of legs for-like-eva!  I finally was inspired and wanted to give them the “dipped leg” look.  Here is the after!

For the full tutorial, click here or just click the button below!

So what have you been working on?  As usual, please remember the rules.

1. Must be a follower.
2. Must be a FURNITURE MAKEOVER OR BUILD that has never been linked here before!
3. Must place my button or a text link in your post or sidebar.
4. NO etsy shops!
5. Leave some comment love for the others!
