Happy POWW!  I hope you all enjoyed a gorgeous President’s Day!  We did here- the sun was shining all day here!  In the morning we made “candy surprise cookies”.  I used my tried and true chocolate chip cookie recipe, but we used lots of leftover Halloween candy broken into bits in place of the chocolate chips.  Here is a little glimpse of our candy….

We have started a new thing with our kids called “Something New Saturday”.  Every Saturday they have to try a new dinner, and if they try it, they get to try a new dessert.  It’s been a lot of fun so far, and the kids are getting much better at trying new things.
Anyhow, this is NOT a baking blog, and it never will be, so let’s get to the furniture.  A couple weeks ago I shared a chair makeover with you.  I had two other chairs just like it, but one had caning that was still in good condition.  It is the one on the right in this picture…

I had some of CeCe Caldwell’s “Memphis Blue” on hand (which is available to order here).  I love the pretty shade of blue, and love that it is named after Memphis.  Chris and I actually lived there for a short time.  Memphis is home to the first apartment we shared back when we were livin’ in sin!  Anyhow, all I did to prep this chair was make a couple of repairs to the legs which had minor splits.  So just some glue and a couple clamps was all it took.  I did not sand this chairs, and just brushed the paint right on.  I gave it two coats, and then distressed it with 160 grit sandpaper by hand.  Then I used CeCe’s wax, using a rag to wipe it on, and a brush to get into the detailed hard to reach areas of the chair.  And here it is now!  And I am loving the blue next to my house (though I am not keeping this chair) so I am feeling good about thinking I will eventually paint the doors some shade of blue. 🙂

My favorite time of the week is here, the time where I get to see all the gorgeous furniture pieces you have been working on!

I found this bed the other day at Goodwill and there was no price.  I looked around and found an employee who found another employee who told me he could sell it for $15!  I tried not to let out a crazy sounding laugh, as I yelled, “I want it!”  What a steal!  I loved its carved details!  This is a photo I took with my phone outside of Goodwill before I loaded it into my car!

I thought at first about painting it black, but I wasn’t sold.  Then as I was perusing Houzz I came across the most gorgeous gray bed.  (Thank you, Suzy, for emailing me the image!)

Anyhow, so I went with Annie Sloan’s Paris Gray chalk paint, again my favorite of all the chalk paint colors in the land!  I gave it two coats, lightly distressed it, and waxed it.  I posted it for sale and the same gal who bought the gray china cabinet snatched the bed up soon after I posted it!  And let me tell you, she is hysterical!!!!  She told me in her email….
“Yup. I’ll die and they will find everything you ever sold me piled up around me with a burry me with it sticker on it! “
At least I know it is going to a woman who really will appreciate and love it!  If it had been a queen it would not have made it up for sale!  Anyhow, want to see it?
