Piece of Work Wednesday Link Party Number 26!

Welcome to another POWW!  I can’t wait to see what you guys have been up to!  I am working on some fun projects at the moment, but they aren’t quite ready to share.  Stay tuned for that!  Today I am going to show you the custom dining set I just finished for Bridget (of the coral table and awesome fabrics, which are from Russell & McKenna for those that asked).  I went to Bridget’s home last week and am working on another fun piece for her… can I tell you how beauitful her home is?  Amazing!  And she has decorated it all herself- her daytime job is lawyer, but she is very talented aesthetically.  Would you like to see for yourself how beautiful her home is?  Yes?  Good!  Because she has agreed to let me come over and take pictures to give you all a grand tour!  Anyhow, on to her dining set, which began life as a black and cherry pedestal table and windsor chair set.

These are the post-electric sander shots.  Since the chairs were so spindly and I knew I couldn’t possibly get all of the shiny finish off, I used Sherwin Williams adhesion primer.  I tested an area that wasn’t sanded and it stuck.  I gave the chairs 3 coats of that to be safe- remember I use a brush so with allt hose spindles you can’t go on too thick!  The chairs took then 3 more coats of paint.  Yikes!  The table I gave two coats of primer and 3 coats of paint.  Once they were all done I distressed them by hand.  The paint was really on there after all that primer, So I ended up using a paint scraper to take some of the paint off the edges, and then sanded to make that area look more worn.  Once it was all distressed, I went over it all with Minwax Golden Oak to give it a more antiqued finish.  We used semi-gloss Harmony (Zero VOC) paint in Greek Villa on this project.  Bridget prefers the satin look, but since she has kids and needs something that will clean easily, semigloss was a better choice.  Here they are now, oh, and now that you have seen my workspace I am not too ashamed to show you the final product of the table still in the workspace since I cannot carry it by myself.

I can’t wait to see them in place in Bridget’s home!

Piece of Work Wednesday Link Party Number 22!

Is anyone else having trouble with blogger adding links lately… I apoligize- trying to fix my links but it keeps not allowing me.
Hey there, friends!  I am so excited about the piece I have to share for the party today, probably because it’s for my own house. 🙂  My friend Rene from Cottage & Vine has been working on her entry and showing great inspiration pics, like these two…

(Little Green Notebook)
And then there is her own…

Isn’t it adorable???  We’ve been chatting about who has the smaller foyer.  I am pretty sure mine takes the cake.   Just look at that teensy space by the door!
PinAnywho, after seeing all of Rene’s inspiration, I was inspired and decided my foyer needed updating and a punch of color.  I loved the dark dramatic colors of the pieces in the first images.  And I am never going to fit anything but this tiny dresser in that spot.
Pin
So, it was time for a makeover… I sanded it down, primed it with my Kilz Clean Start primer, though I wasn’t yet sure what color.  I am trying to use things I have on hand, so I looked through my paints and settled on Benjamin Moore’s Newburg Green in Aura.  It was PERFECT.  I am thrilled with how it turned out!  And I had some funky chunky brass knobs on hand from an old dresser and replaced the knobs with those. Here it is now!

I removed the shelf above, too, and there will be some other minor changes happening soon, too!  But for now, I LOVE this piece!

I like the new color of the dresser! I liked the “before” and I really liked the numbers, but it kind of disappeared in that small space. Now it really pops! I’ve been working on a small table myself but it’s not quite done yet. Maybe for next week’s POWW! In the meantime I’ll just have fun checking out what everyone else has been up to!
