Emmy and I started planning a little room makeover around Christmas time and life has kept us on our toes, but we are finally done and I am excited to share Emmy’s room reveal today. My little girl desired a room that was black and white with some pink and gold for good measure. After slowly trucking away at it for 6 months we are finally where we want it, and just added the finishing touches, new black and white bedding from Crane & Canopy, built in shelves, and a new banner above her bed.
I love that Emmy has had such a say in this space, and made so many of the choices. When it came to bedding, I showed her some options. (Sidenote: her old bedding was just white and looked good in photos, but it was hand me down and had a couple holes and stains and needed to go!). Immediately, she was drawn to the Linden Black Border duvet and shams from Crane & Canopy. Chris and I actually have the same bedding in blue and we have been so happy with it. This bedding collection is 400 thread count and it not only beautiful, but washes well and is very comfortable against our skin, and I am pretty picky about that- I like my sheets and bedding to be cool and smooth! I was thrilled when Emmy selected this bedding because it’s what I secretly wanted for her room. But you know, sometimes you have to make them think it’s their idea… 😉
Not only is this bedding gorgeous, but it really was the perfect choice for her room. It has simple modern lines, and flows perfectly with everything else.
Speaking of everything else, let’s take a look around her room at all of the spaces. Some of the projects and items in her room, I have already shared, so I will link back to all of those for you.
The banner above her bed is a sort of new addition… I actually made the bird and cloud hanger for her a few years ago for Christmas, and presented it as a gift from our elf on the shelf. So she adores it because it’s special to her that the elf made it just for her. We used to hang vintage book pages of pieces of her art on it, but we decided a banner with a saying would be perfect. I asked her what she wanted it to say, and she immediately spit out “Love, peace, and awesome!” Well, OK, then!
I just drew it with chalk on black craft paper and hand cut it out. I really love the look of imperfect lettering versus perfectly even precision cut lettering.
The chalkboard thought cloud above her bed was a recent addition as well and allows her to express herself.
To the right of her bed, there is a small nook that was once painted faux bois by me, but now that her hanging chair sits in front of it, we needed function and it needed to work with the chair. It was the perfect space to add built ins for book storage, so she can curl up on her chair with a book. I asked Emmy what color she wanted to back the shelves, and she chose black.
To build the shelves into the nook, I used the same method I used in my kitchen closet. These shelves add much needed book storage and allow her plenty of space to display things that are special to her, and lovely pieces of art like the print from Craftberry Bush
I think this might be my favorite nook in the house!
Her dresser was a new addition this year as well and the accessible storage it provides is amazing. I painted this piece (click here to see it), and recently reworked the wall above it to bring in some mirrors I painted a while back and had been holding onto, just waiting for the right placement in our home.
The prints have been in her home since we first finished her room a few years ago. We just love them, so they had to stay and were perfect placed right between the mirrors. If you love them like we do, they come from the etsy shop, This Year’s Girl
, and she has so many awesome ones to choose from.
And her room wouldn’t be complete without her fish… We recently lost this guy after about a year, but we just welcomed a new fish, “All Star” into her room. Bambi keeps an eye on things for us.
Opposite her dresser sits her dollhouse that was built by Middle Creek Woodworking but finished by me, and her settee.
To the left of that sits her closet, which is the perfect space for her little pink vanity, and her clothes stay hidden behind curtains that were hand me downs, originally from Ikea. And my mom deserves a major shout out as she created Emmy’s ruffled window treatments for me.And of course, the new rug really grounds the entire space and the black hides dirt very well!
We are just so happy with her space! It’s her own magical little retreat and she had so much design say that she has pride in her room. Of course, I really wish that pride and magic would carry over into keeping her room clean, but as my mom can tell you, Emmy is “just like me.” And I was a total slob as a kid…. so I am just getting my payback!
Thank you so much to Crane & Canopy for providing the bedding for this room makeover. I was in no other way compensated, and all opinions are my own.
