Quick and Easy Vintage Framed Chalkboard

This week has been BUSY…. meetings, events, school happenings.  I honestly thought I would have no time to work, but was able to squeeze in a couple mall projects yesterday and get the first coat on a larger one.  Today, I am sharing with you a quick and easy one.  I found this huge framed picture recently at a thrift shop and loved the frame, but the picture…. um…. not so much.

The nice thing about the picture was it was a pretty thick board and I was able to paint right over it to create a chalkboard.  All I did was clean it up with a wet rag to remove any dust.  I then used a great angled brush and applied two coats right over that picture.  I let it cure, and then had some fun drawing on it…

I loved the gold frame as is!  No need to paint it… I love black and gold together!  My Alma Mater’s colors are actually black and gold (Wake Forest).  That’s just a random tidbit for you today.

Easiest chalkboard ever.  Next time think twice about removing that ugly picture… just paint over its hideousness and hide it from the world forever under chalkboard paint!

Have a great day!

Get out! I’m amazed – thought for sure you would be able to see the remnants of the picture after you painted it. Not a trace!

So smart for a large chalkboard too! Speaking of Starry Night I got to see it in person at MOMA in NYC a few days ago – it was just incredible! That museum is so inspiring and amazing!

Looks fabulous. For years I carried around a huge gold frame. Can’t remember what I did with the picture. But, I never knew what to do with the frame and now I guess some genius found it and has transformed it into a piece of beauty. Oh I wish I knew then what I do now!!!!

a favorite easy project of mine! I buy them when they are $5 or less, and do this very thing… then sell it for a good profit. Who doesn’t love a great chalkboard?

I have an ugly old picture in a gold frame… and some chalkboard paint. And a brush.

Now, I need a Cassie and I’ll be all set.

fantastic Cassie. I was about to chop up an old print on board to make a shelf and a neighbour came rushing over as he recognised the print and apparently it’s a limited edition of a famour australian artist. I still think it’s a piece of crap but decided to sue another piece of wood for my shelf. I’ll get it valued…
bought it for $2 for the frame. perhaps i’ll strike it rich like on Antiques Roadshow!
    cheers Fiona
