Happy Wednesday!  Today I am partnering with 6 AMAZING bloggers and we are rocking the pantone color of the year, radiant orchid!  Here’s a little collage so you can see what everyone created, and be sure to click on the links below to check out all the other awesome projects!

From top left moving clockwise:
1. Flower Pots from Dimples and Tangles
2. Secretary Desk from Cuckoo 4 design
3. Abstract Art from Retro Ranch Renovation
4. Powder Room from The Chronicles of Home
5. Painted Tray from Dwellings by Devore
6. Cross Stitched Jewelry Organizer from Primitive and Proper

Do you see all the bright radiant orchid in those photos above?  Now do you see my project up there???  Yeah, it’s the one with a barely noticeable HINT of radiant orchid.  That color is not in my wheelhouse, so I had to stretch a bit.  AND I had to use it in Emmy’s room since I wasn’t feeling it anywhere else in my house.  Won’t be painting the dining room radiant orchid anytime soon.

Anyhow, I took this opportunity to finally create something I have been meaning to…. something that will change my world forever, or at least until Emmy heads off to college.

Pin
I love Emmy.  I love her funny, sweet, spirited, creative little self!  She is much like me…. and with that spirited and creative personality we have comes a bit of sloppiness!  I will admit it.  I know she gets it form me.  While I like my main living areas to be tidy and neat, the areas where I create look like a paint truck drove by and spilled a bunch of cans out the back….
Emmy’s jewelry was running all amok over her room, as much as jewelry can, and getting tangled in hard to untangle knots.
I took matters into my hand and created a fun organizer for her.  I don’t have during photos, but let me tell you this was SUPER easy.
My supplies:
White pegboard 2×4 from Home Depot
Radiant Orchid paint from Lowe
sponge brush
small “S” hooks
4 screws
Rainbow yard (has a radiant orchid-esque color to it)
Yarn needle
drill and bit
This pegboard was already white when I bought it, but it’s made out of a brown particle board so the edges were brown.  I used a sponge brush to paint the edges in radiant orchid.
Once that was dry, I used my yarn and needle to cross stitch the word “love” into it.  That was Emmy’s choice… I told her she could have it say anything she wanted and that’s her favorite word. I am no pro at cross stitching, though I did win a blue ribbon in 8th grade for my family tree cross stitch.  Not to brag or anything.  But you know, I guess cross stitching just comes naturally to me. 😉  (or not- I am way too impatient!).
Anyhow, once that was done, I took it to her room, used a level to make sure I had it straight on her wall behind her bedroom door (great place for something like this that is needed for practically flat storage, allowing the door to still open all the way), and marked the 4 corner holes of the board on the wall.
I drilled the 4 lead holes for my screws on my marks.  I discovered that I hit a stud with 2 of the screws, so I didn’t need anchors for those.  I knew this board wasn’t going to hold a lot, so I actually decided to forgo the anchors in the other two holes as well.  I placed the board on the wall and inserted my screws, making sure to leave a slight gap between the board and the wall to allow room for the “S” hooks.
Here you can see the gap:
Pin
And here is a look at how the “S” hooks work- they just slip right through the holes and then leave a hook exposed for her to hang her jewelry.
Pin
And check it out- do you see that little touch of radiant orchid?
Pin
And here is a closer look at the lettering….
Pin
And so far so good- she is actually keeping it all well organized! I mean, every girl needs a place for all of her baubles and sparkly cat ears!
Pin

Below you can see its placement in her room, just behind her doorway.

I did this one day while Emmy was at school, and she was thrilled when she came home!  Let’s hope the novelty doesn’t wear off and she can stick with keeping it neat!

I love how you barely snuck the orchid color in. I share your lack of enthusiasm for this color. Emmy’s jewelry holder turned out precious though!

NY Times had an article recently (within the last 6 months) about people being more creative in messy places.

Love the jewelry (and sparkly cat ears) organization for Emmy. Her room is the perfect place for touches of Radiant Orchid.

That’s the perfect amount of Radiant Orchid I think Cassie! So cute and Emmy is sure to get YEARS of use of that jewelry board. My daughter is very much like me too with the creative yet messy traits!

This is really pretty, Cassie. And no one said the radiant orchid had to be splashed across an entire room! I like it like this, just a touch 🙂

You barely eked out the radiant orchid but that small touch makes such a difference. I may need to steal this idea in my one closet. I also might need some sparkly cat ears…

I think I’m the only person in the world that really likes the radiant orchid. I really need to make something like that. I have a plastic container of costume jewelry that’s all clumped together. Needless to say it’s not getting worn.

aww! Emmy’s pegboard is so fun! I don’t know that radiant orchid is in my wheelhouse either though my college dorm room was decorated in teals and an orchid purple! Love the color just don’t always know how to fit it in. I’m excited to get to work on our master bedroom though because I’m planning on a gray, white, lavender, mauve, and terra cotta color scheme!! I know what I want to do and hopefully it will come together!
