A Rare Post: Organizing a Closet

I am not one who generally enjoys organizing.  Ever.  My closets rarely look good, and ditto for any cabinets!  Just keepin’ it real here, folks.  But the January organizational bug bit me.  At least it’s better than the stink bug, which I still find around here sometimes.  (Really- stink bugs are awful in this area, and they are a real  thing- I am not code-naming my kids farts or anything).
Anyhow, Emmy and I are working on revamping her room, so she and I took a trip to IKEA the other day so we could get some items to organize her closet.  This is what I started with….

The trunk had been in her room, and I loved it so much that I stuck it in her closet in hopes of keeping it.  It didn’t work in there, so I finally let it go and gave it to a friend I know will appreciate it.   Emmy and I bought some new cardboard boxes with lids at IKEA to store all her school papers (I love saving all my kids artwork!), some fabric bins, show baskets, and even pretty colored hangers.  And now, here it is!

ο»ΏI even color coded her hangers- pink and orange are warm weather clothes, and blue and green are cold weather, the exception being the skirts which had to stay on their white hangers.  I was even able to move her hamper into her closet and now don’t have to look at it on a daily basis.  It’s not a fabulous closet makeover by any means, but it is much better, and she is excited about it which hopefully means it will stay more organized!
With the upcoming changes to her room, which I can’t show you yet, I am going to be getting rid of the piece I used as her nightstand- it’s a princess dresser, which also have a gorgeous tall skinny mirror that goes to it.  I figured I would see if anyone out there who lives in the area (DC/MD/VA) is interested. I love it, but she needed a different piece, which will be shown to you next month!  Here it is- it’s $100 with the mirror if you want it!

    A great makeover Cassie.

I’m of the school, “quick hide it in a drawer or closet”. Just keeping it real, eh!

Looks great, the bug hasn’t hit me yet. Maybe next week! I love the idea with the hangers, it would even work for baby clothes to separate the sizes.

Looks great! The constant rotation of kids clothes drives me CRAZY! They outgrow them so fast, I haven’t found a good system yet. You’ve inspired me to keep at and find something that works.

So cute that you color coordinated the closet. I am very impressed. The hangers would stay that way for about two days at my house!

I bet Emmy loves her closet. She’s got a fun little rainbow collection of clothing. She strikes me as liking to get dressed in fun outfits. She’s always adorably dressed in her photos with her cute tights. Nicely organized, Cassie. My goal for the end of this month is to have my closets organized. The princess dresser is darling.
