Sawyer’s Knock-Off Bedding

When we switched Sawyer over to a twin bed a few years back, I wanted a certain quilt from Pottery Barn, the Kasey quilt.

Isn’t it just perfect for a little boy? Unfortunately, the price was a little out of my reach, so I decided to make one like it (with my mom’s help of course, as she is an expert quilter!). I went to the fabric store and bought all the fabrics on sale and with coupons. I couldn’t find any greens I liked so I stuck with the primary colors- red, yellow, and blue. I cut strips all the same length, in variegated sizes, and sewed them all together until I had a wide enough quilt. When that was complete, my mom helped me lay it out to back it with the royal blue solid fabric. I was able to complete this work and then sew the backing on, but I could not for the life of me top stitch it so that it would hold together, so that was where my mom had to step in. Thanks, Mom! But for around $40, this is the quilt that Sawyer has on his bed now…

Also wanted to thank you all for the lovely comments on my home tour. I am planning to paint Sawyer’s dressers after it was almost unanimous. Haven’t decided what color yet, but stay tuned! ๐Ÿ™‚

Holy jamoly, I can not believe you made that. I’m a pretty basic sewer still and stick to what I know and have never made anything big. That quilt looks amazing and I bet you saved lots of $$$.

That is awesome – I think I’m going to be in the same boat with my son’s room. I just can’t find what I’m looking for at a reasonable price.

This is SOOOOO cute and completely PB! I had to click over from CSI because this would have perfectly matched my son’s nursery. Of course that was 8 years ago. But still. I really love the primary color combo. (where was this when I needed it?) Such a great job! I love the visible top stitch. Really great!
