Happy Saturday!  I hope you’ve all digested your Thanksgiving meal by now and have had a wonderful holiday.  We spent ours with family and then left the kids behind so Chris and I had two nights and one entire day alone in the house.  Being the hip adventurers lame old couple that we are, we cleaned up the yard a bit, cleared out the veggie garden, and stayed home.  But some of today’s links come from our time at home as we spent it trying a couple new recipes and watching new to us movies.

Seen: It’s no surprise that I loved this home featured on Design Sponge as it was dubbed “a vintage collector’s treasure-filled home.” There was so much to love including quirky finds and fun artwork, but what I was really smitten with was this vintage modern nursery.Vintage Mod Nursery Via Design SpongeI have one more for seen today as well because I wanted to share this movie with you.  We watched Seeking a Friend for the End of the World  which stars Steve Carrel and Keira Knightley who happen to be two of our favorites.  The premise is that an asteroid is a few weeks away from colliding with and destroying the earth.  So yes, it is slightly depressing, but also extremely bittersweet and a fantastic love story with a bit of sarcasm and humor as well.

Heard: On my recent trip to North Carolina with Emmy, I heard Billy Vera’s At this Moment which is an older song.  Every time I hear it I am taken back to that heartbreaking episode of Family Ties and I just thought I’d take you all back today, too.

Tasted: Apple crisp is one of those desserts that is a favorite of Chris and me so since we had the house to ourselves we decided to make a nice dinner complete with dessert.  We had planned on complementing it with Irish coffee, but after enough wine, we were good!  I have my old go-to recipe with we’ve made for years, but I wanted to go a little healthier this time so we tried this recipe from Cookie and Kate.  It was quite delicious, but I think I would leave out the allspice next time… I prefer a strong cinnamon and less of the other spices. 🙂  Either way, I will make it again!

And on that note, we are off to get the kids back home today and then it’s off to Gaver Farm to select our family tree.  Have a wonderful Saturday!

I loved that episode of Family Ties. Whenever I hear that song, I think of that episode. I love that they are still together in real life though. 🙂

Don’t know what episode of Family Ties referring to, hardly remember Family Ties. My kids might.
How wonderful for you and Chris to have some time alone, don’t have to something smashing, just being together is plenty in your own home. Glad you had that, important to have time alone. You re-discover why you fell in love with him. and he you,
Our youngest child, Lowells’ and my daughter, is finding out how nice it is to have time alone. Their oldest is at college and youngest is out with friends, working, on a date. She’s 46, he’s 52. I was about her age when all my kids (3 oldest from first marriage) were mostly all grown up and gone. She was 16 when I was 46. Since we had 3 kids to start out we hadn’t had that alone time before kids came along, so was nice to have more freedom to ourselves.
We didn’t really know each other, first date was 10/18/68, got married on 11/30/68 and he left for Viet Nam on 12/26/68, was gone for 4 months. It was kind of hard when he came back, then in August of 69 he got out of Air Force , we moved to Colorado Springs. Things were very different for us there, only lived there for 10 months. Our daughter was only 7 weeks old when we moved back to Tucson, lived with my Mother for about 4 months then we bought a house in Tucson where we’d met. There’s more but don’t think you want to hear that story, boring.
    Hope you had wonderful Thanksgiving..
Enjoy weekend and next week. Have you started Christmas decorating yet?
