Shabby Vintage Modern Glam Beachy Chic- I am CONFUSED!!

As I look around my home there is always a project brewing in my mind.  I know many of you DIY bloggers feel the same way… there is always something that can be made better.  But lately, I am so confused as to what my style really is.  I love so many different things, and I don’t believe that I have to choose one style, but I am still just confused.  I am craving bold colors lately, too, and I think that has something to do with it, but then I see beachy soft images and my hear flips!  These are some of my favorite rooms, and they are all over the place!
Seaside Retreat
Emerald Cove
A Beach Cottage
Three Men and A Lady
The Feminist Housewife
Photobucket
KFD Designs
Nuestra Vida Dulce
Do you ever feel as utterly confused as I do?  I love so many different rooms, and I just don’t know what I want in my own home sometimes.  The beauty of blogging is that I get to see all these gorgeous homes that belong to real people who have done the work and put the rooms together themselves.  And I love that.  It’s awesome and inspiring.  But on the flipside, my brain is on overload and totally confused as to what it wants!!!!

Cassie I’m getting caught up right now on reading your blog and when I saw the new title I started giggling! I feel exactly the same way but like you I think you can sort of mix in a bit of all the styles you like to create your own style, I love what you have done with your home! Maybe if you are craving a little more color you could paint the walls in your family room or a bathroom a pretty bright color…just a thought. By the way I have never seen the Feminist Housewife’s blog but that photo of her bedroom is so beautiful that I’m heading over there now!

I know how you feel! I’m am decoratively confused.. I see a modern, contemporary room and love it, then I see a shabby chic or beachy themed room I love. I like sterile walls with pops of color, but then I like bright crazy walls too! I don’t know what to do! Ahh! I dont’ think you have to have “just one” style though! Just make it work for you… I’m working on it!

I don’t think you can find your style in someone else’s picture or house. Your style is YOUR STYLE and it evolves with you. Your style will change (mine is changing constantly) – so don’t work too hard at figuring out your style, just what you like and your style will fall into place.

Cassie- I am so right there with you. I try to figure out what the heck my style is all the time. One of the most interesting things to me is going to thrift stores and getting a bunch of knick knacks and seeing if that is representative of your style. I find it is! I JUST wrote about this today!

I’m with you…that’s me to a T! It’s called an eclectic style and it’s okay to embrace it. That’s what I’ve been doing for years.

My girlfriends and I always joke about needing three homes to satisfy all of our decore desires lol. It quite simply comes down to choices. Just like your wardrobe each morning, you have to make a choice. You can’t wear all your outfits at once. Good luck deciding!

I love all these rooms above. It’s funny, I was thinking about this the other day. I think I have a set idea of what I love, I try not to go too with the trends. I love modern, I love mid century, I love eccelectic, but I love classic as well. My blog has made me discover many of these loves. I am trying to incorporate what I feel in my house. I actually even think it depends on the room in my house and the style that its becoming.

Confused is my middle name! I know overall what I like. Casual, relaxed sort of feel. But colors? My head spins sometimes. And even though I love an old, vintage beachy look a part of me like the clean and modern too. That’s when I have to merge the two.

Thank you for putting a name to my disease! I love all of those rooms all for different reasons! My problem is making it all work together with out looking like I’m trying too hard. And having the guts to go for it!

Don’t feel bad, I design for a living and even I get confused. I’m always seeing something new, and being asked to do different things. I like a lot of different design styles, but I always come back to what’s comfortable to me…Frenchasian Country Eclectic…with some Elegantflea thrown in. It’s who I am.

Yes! I do get confused. I guess it’s just hard to tell the difference between what I love and what I like. You seem to make it all work, though.
The pictures I see that really make me gasp are the super simple rooms with lots of white and a few pops of really soothing colors. I figure if I’m gasping, I love it, right? I(or I just ran back from getting the mail)
So when I’m temped to go for scrolly, flourishy color drenched overload, I have to really restrain myself. 🙂 Because I like that, too, and I’m not sure I could make it all work.

Yes yes yes!!! I get so confused sometimes! I love so many different styles! This time last year I was all about shabby chic & then I realised it just didnt go with our new build house design, so I have gone back to what I originally loved, which is sleek modern – the opposite end of the scale – with a little vintage thrown in here & there & I feel it suits our house now & reflects me so much better! Good luck with whatever you choose! x

When I first switched from prim I loved the shabby chic style but 6 months later I’ve found that I still love it but just certain things so I’m branched out to a little of Pottery Barn and I mix them together and call it “Rondell
‘s” LOL! I hear you though it’s a crazy kind of love don’t you think?

I hear you, but I think I’ve become color obsessed as of late. The more the merrier as long as there is a balance! In my dreams I would like to have 2 homes…one colorful and eclectic and an ultra modern one that is bright white and extremely sparse! Ah, if only!

You’re not the only one, Cassie! (As evidenced by all the comments so far…) I generally like more muted colors and a cottagey feel, but my office and loft are going to be places with more vibrant color–mostly via Cath Kidston and Tanya Whelan fabric. Variety is the spice of life!

    Take care,

I like so many different styles, too. I like Modern, cottage, french farmhouse. SO nice that there aren’t as many rules in design these days. My problem tends to be with color. I want the rooms to flow and not look like a box of crayons. Ugh! I say, go with what you like and try and blend it. I like Sharon’s answer. Multiple houses 🙂 xx

I was just thinking about this over the weekend. I seem to be all over the map lately with my style and colors. I crave color and then I crave white, soft blue and very serene. I crave fun and whimsical and then the next day I crave white, shabby, farm house, beach house…. I guess I am in kind of an eclectic phase right now. Now, maybe if I win the lottery I could buy that beach house and have an excuse to decorate two places.

I feel like this ALL THE TIME! When I look at rooms online or in magazines, I can pick out rooms that I love, but then when I start to work on my own room, it turns out to look nothing like my inspiration rooms! I think I need to be better about picking out which elements I am attracted to in certain rooms and then try to replicate those elements. But our homes are always a work in progress and that’s the beauty of it…you can always change it later!

LOL You’re not the only one but there’s nothing wrong with having more than one type of style that you adore (that’s why a home has more than one room!) From the looks of these photos it seems that you really like the contrast of colors with white. No matter how you define it you like what you like. 😉

P.S. I want to walk the the computer and live in room number 3 it’s GORGEOUS (and so me in so many ways)
