Shower Curtain Reveal (sort of), How to Find Sand Dollars, POWW Faves, and Giveaway Winner!

Greetings from Seabrook Island!  We have been blessed with beautiful perfect weather here!  My mother in law has spoiled me with good food, good wine, sleeping in…. and waking up to coffee in the pot ready for me.  I am in HEAVEN.  Too bad I have to get in my car tomorrow and drive 9 hour back home.
While at the beach, I was searching for sand dollars, using the old go for a walk and see what you find method.  That method does still work, as Emmy found two that way!  But I learned a new trick… You look for the little air bubbles in the sand.  Those air bubbles mean one of two things- sand dollars or crabs.  If you see poop around the airhole, it’s a crab.  And if you see a little mound where you can tell the ocean has left something behind, it most likely is a sand dollar!  The mound is subtle, and looks like this- you can see it on the ocean side of the air bubble.

Pin

Disregard the airhole to the right- in this picture the airhole is not too visible and is right next to that little mound on the left.  Here is another one to help you see what to look for…

Pin

It’s that small little washed away lump looking thing… (I know, really scientific here!).  Anyhow, when you see that, you simply dig a little with your fingers, very shallowly, and if you hit something hard, you’ve got one.  If you find one, dig around it so you don’t break it, and lift it out!

This was the first one my mother in law found this trip!  Pretty neat, huh?  I found tons more after that, kept some, and buried some back in the sand.

Also, I wanted to show you my new shower curtain!  Of couse, I wanted to show it to you hanging in my bathroom, but I received an email from CSN stores, that it will not ship until May 11th.  (Originally I was supposed to have it in my hands by last Thursday).  Say what?  Not happy about that, but am still excited to have ordered it.  This is what I am going to be anxiously awaiting…

Worth the wait, don’t you think?

And now, let’s get to POWW faves!  So many wonderful links shared this week again!  Also, if you did not receive a comment from me on your project, there were a couple of blogs I had trouble accessing for some reason, so I apologize!  The other reason you may not have gotten a comment is that it maybe was a craft and not furniture or even close.
This cane back sofa from Erin at Carolina Country Living had me hyperventilating! It is insanely gorgeous!

Kristine from The Painted Hive is one brave lady. Not only is she with child, but she took on a monster of a project with this dining set. I have to say it was well worth her efforts. It’s just stunning. I can’t wait to see what she has lined up for her nursery; she has wuite the eye for casual chic design.

And I found this one through a link party this week, but then she happened to link it here as well, so I am so glad I get to show it off.  Richmond Thrifter shared this highboy that she turned into a MAN. And I love this man.

And now, the moment you have all been waiting for!  The winner of $200,000,000 my custom giveaway is….

Awww, you three look so happy & relaxed! Awesome sand dollars! I don’t think I’ve ever seen them so fresh, only all white and dried out in the souvenir shops. Have a safe drive back 🙂

I saw all of these earlier in the week and had to go back and look again because all three were among my favorites as well! That’s a neat tip for searching for sand dollars. I used to live 4 minutes from the beach and never knew!

I love sand dollars but just an fyi…many beaches have rules that it’s illegal to keep em. The beach we go to every summer asks you to throw em back in the ocean or be fined.

    Hi
I wanted to give you some info on shelling/sand dollars. Those were live sand dollars you took – that is illegal in many areas, let alone it prevents the creature from repopulating. A healthy ocean is a good thing.
You can tell it is alive by the ‘fur’ on the back and sides. A dead sand dollar is usually white, and dried out.
Also – never throw a shell, sand dollar or sea star! It kills them. Place them gently back in the water.

In Washington state, where I live, and Oregon too, we were taught to only take the dead sand dollars. They are white and lying on top of the sand and quite often have a hole where the sea gulls have pierced a hole with their beak to eat the edible portion. You should never dig the live sand dollars up as they are needed to reproduce future generations. Holley

Such a fun post. I was having a rough day and when I read it it made me feel better, thinking about my kids and a leisurely walk on the beach. Sand dollars are so pretty! Don’t worry about taking a few. You didn’t know that it might be illegal, and I personally don’t think its immoral. We eat hamburgers but freak out over sand dollars.

    Lovely pictures too… thanks…
