My Signature Style: Moody Free-Spirited Collector

Today I am participating in the #SignatureStyle blog hop put together by Carrie of Making Lemonade.  If you are stopping by from Walking in Grace & Beauty, welcome!  If you are a new here today, what better way to get to know a little about me than by sharing a moodboard featuring some of what I consider to be my signature style items!

This blog tends to lean more towards the design and DIY side of things, but I thought it would be fun to include some of my fashion style in this post as well.  Because, like all of you (I hope), I do wear clothes.

Sources From Top Left Clockwise:

*** Fox Tank * Sweater * Aqua Glassware * Vintage Sailboat Painting * Bentwood  * Dreamcatcher * Brass Deer * Boots * Jeans ***

Fall is my absolute favorite season- I love the design elements that are signature Fall, and I also love Fall clothes!  In the Fall I can typically be found wearing some sort of long cardigan sweater (not the preppy button kind, but more the free flowing boho kind), tall brown boots, and skinny jeans.  These toothpick jeans from J.Crew are my favorite and seem to fit my body type well.  (And let me tell you I was so excited to score a pair of my favorites in my size at Goodwill the other week for $5!)  As for the tank top, I just love to wear fun layering tees and tanks with my sweaters;  I love blues, and I love foxes, so I thought this was pretty exemplary of what I would wear, even though I don’t own that particular tank….. yet.

My clothing style actually aligns fairly well with my home style…. what I am calling Moody Free-Spirited Collector.  My clothing ensembles tend to be free spirited, and also collected- I don’t shop in “outfits” but rather gather pieces along the way that speak to me.

My home is dressed in the same fashion, and it’s a place where I can enjoy my collections and pieces that speak to my soul.

I chose the aqua glasses from World Market, because they are similar to my own vintage glassware in my shades of the sea kitchen, that was found at a flea market, in a thrift shop, and also gifted…. a collection.

As you can see in the image above from the kitchen as well as the image below of the dining room gallery wall, vintage sea paintings always speak to me…. Some have been gifted, some have been found, but all are special to me!  I love the moody blues and greens, and something about the ocean waves is so calming.  Even though I live in a coastal state, I’m actually out in the country, a couple hours from the ocean.  These paintings remind me that it’s still there, rolling in and out with the moon.

The dining room completely epitomizes my style- the collection of paintings, the vintage bentwood chairs (I hunted for these!), and the moody wall color, navy and aqua accents…. it’s a space that calms me down.

One of my favorite items to hunt for…. brass animals!  I have several in my living room bookcases, a couple of gifted large deer/antelope, and these brass deer that live on my fireplace..  They are all so quirky and fun, and I am especially drawn to the woodland creatures.  Oh, and they are so pretty and shiny, too!  Let’s not forget that!

Last year you may recall I DIY’ed a huge dreamcatcher using a hula hoop, yarn and feathers.  It’s one of my personal favorite DIY’s because I love the meaning/purpose of dreamcatchers, I love the natural elements it brings to the room, and I love the whimsy they add.  I may or may not have plans to DIY a small one coming up…. we’ll see.

Jessica from Decor Adventures created a little Q&A along with her own signature style post yesterday.  I loved it and asked if she minded if I borrowed her question- she didn’t,  so here you go!

If you could only buy items from one store to decorate my home, which store would it be?

Anthropologie!  Without a doubt!  Of course, the real question here is which store can I also afford to only shop at for home decor, and if Im being honest, it’s probably not this one.  But a girl can dream.

Where do you prefer to find a deal, the mall or a thrift store?

I avoid malls as often as possible, but if the local thrift shops are the light to my moth- I am drawn in by instinct.

What is one accessory you’re often wearing?

One accessory I wear 99% of the time- my pearl earrings.  They are simple and classic and not in line with my style, really, but I love them.  And if we want to get really deep here, I could add that pears are found in oysters which come from the sea; we’ve already discussed how I feel about the sea, so it’s my way of carrying a piece of the ocean with me everywhere I go.

In what style is your home decorated?

It’s Moody, Free Spirited and Collected, duh!  It’s really just a home decorated with things I love.

What is your iPhone case?

It’s a vintage inspired deer paint by number, of course!  My bestie sent it with love.  She knows me so well!

deerpbnPin

If you could paint a wall any color, what would it be?

I would love to paint a wall in our home with Benjamin Moore’s Symphony Blue.  I adore the color ever since I used it on a custom table 5 years ago.  It’s beautiful, and it has a gorgeous name!

Which blogger’s style do you secretly have a crush on?

Well if I told you it wouldn’t be a secret, would it?  Luckily I have never been to shy on sharing my crushes….

I adore Erin at Design Crisis.  She is hilarious and has awesome ideas and style.  She kills it every single time in a beautiful way.

I also really love Shannon of Burlap & Lace.  She inspires me!  I found her through instagram and am so glad I did.  I’m enjoying watching her make her new home in DC.  That sounded really creepy.  I am not physically lurking in her windows, but just following along on her blog!

So there you have it….. these are some of the essentials of my signature style, moody free-spirited collector!

Oh how fun. this has gotten me thinking about my own style, which of lately is turning a bit free spirited as well. Last weekend I bought a dream catcher and a wooded boat oar at a yard sale, which I know you own as well.
You have a great style, And I know I’ve mentioned to you before, but your dining room is my favorite too.

Okay, so I grew up with one of those nautical paintings in my parents’ house. So funny! We just got rid of a couple BIG nautical paintings because they didn’t feel like our style but the idea of clustering them never occurred to me! And… I’ll stalk you over the color in your dining room. That gray is what I’m looking for in our new improved bedroom. Love this!
