Happy Monday! Did you all have a great weekend? We had a fabulous weekend just hanging out as a family and getting things done. Friday night though, I went to an event put on by Silk & Burlap called “Friends & Fashion.” Unfortunately none of my friends could actually go with me so it was friendless and fashion for this girl, but I had the best time! I was looking forward to a night out and am comfortable attending events solo but I ended up knowing several people there, so it made it a lot of fun. (Hi Tara, Pam, & Robin!) The event included a fashion show of several of the gorgeous new pieces in the Summer line at Silk & Burlap, and then afterwards all attendees were invited over to the shop where we received 25% off our purchases. Sign me up! I came home with a beautiful long summery tunic I was debating. When I texted Chris a picture and told him I was thinking about it, his response was “Get it.” Well, twist my arm. In addition that that I also purchased the cutest white cacti to create a simple modern boho mantle in our living room.Shortly after my Spring tour I moved most of my houseplants outside for the season (you can see their new spot here & here). That left the mantle looking rather empty but I just couldn’t find inspiration… nothing struck me so I just left it very plain. The first thing I saw when I walked into Silk & Burlap was these white cacti, sitting on a shelf, and I had to have them! (Unfortunately, they have only one left and it’s not the style I bought. However, I did some research and I found the same cacti in gold here.) I purchased a cute little short one seen below. I placed him on a stack of a few blue vintage books for height.I also added one of my rustic dipped log DIY candlesticks. And when I say added I mean I have just left them up there for almost a year because I love them on the mantle so much!
On the other side, I placed the taller cactus and another stack of books, this time under a candlestick. I was seeking balance, but not symmetry.I just love the way it all looks together… not much color, but it makes a statement nonetheless. The living room is one of my favorite spaces in our home, and I’ve worked on simplifying in there, so this mantle couldn’t be a better fit for my current mood. And of course the view from my favorite seat in the house always makes me smile. Well, that’s all! Wish I could stay here and lounge on my sofa, but I have a barn sale to get ready for! It’s Monday- go get it, girl!
PS- I still cannot for the life of me figure out why my images are crystal clear and then as soon as they are uploaded into wordpress…. blurry. I’ve resized them, added a plug in that is supposed to help… and nothing. I would welcome any thoughts (in a dumbed down non-techie lingo).
