When we made the move from Maryland to North Carolina in January, I had to say goodbye to all of my house plants. I gathered them all in the dining room and had some friends come over and take them home to remember me by. I knew they would see those plants in their homes, water them, take care of them, and think of me, and that thought made me smile. Leaving all of those plants (it was around 50 or so!) behind was hard because I had truly loved taking care of them and watching them grow. I had nurtured and propagated those plants and loved the experience, especially after years of believing I was a black thumb. Something about taking care of a plant and watching it flourish is so rewarding. Of course, their were some learning experiences and casualties along my journey to becoming a plant mama, but I really got into the groove and I loved the life and fresh natural color they brought to my home. (You can catch a peek here.) When 1-800-Flowers.com reached out to me to ask if I’d be interested in trying out their brand new house plant shop and delivery, I jumped at the chance. Their new plant shop includes some of the hottest trending houseplants, as well as new succulent offerings and our new house was in desperate need of some luscious greenery and life! Additionally, I love the idea of sending people plants so I was excited about the opportunity to promote a service that can spread love that lasts with plant delivery right to your loved ones’ doors. This post is sponsored by 1-800-Flowers.com and I also received plants from their house plant shop. All opinions and photography are my own.
As I mentioned above, I left all of my plants behind with friends because I knew that they would see them and think of me, which made me feel loved and happy. Well, think about what happens when you come home to find a surprise package on your porch. Perhaps it’s for a special occasion, maybe it’s to mark a birthday or engagement, or maybe it’s to say you’re sorry for the loss your loved one experienced.
When you send flowers or candy or fruit, those items can be used for a certain period of time, and during that time the recipient will think of you, the giver, and smile. Unfortunately, those gifts, as kind as they are, have a shorter shelf life. However, when you send a plant, the recipient will water it and care for it hopefully for a long time to come, and each time they walk by or tend to it, they will think of you and know they are loved. How amazing is it to send someone who might be going through a hard time the gift of a plant to remind them every day how much you love them? You can also feel good about your purchase because the plants at 1-800-Flowers.com are shipped directly from US growers., so you’re supporting American businesses and jobs.
I have some friends back in Maryland currently going through hard times and I wish I could be there to offer them my shoulder and my ear. While I can’t physically be there for them, I can pick up the phone (ok, let’s be honest, log on to the internet!) and order them a houseplant to let them know I care. When they are feeling alone, I want them to see a happy fresh green daily reminder that someone does in fact care and thinks of them often. Additionally, I am at the age where my friends are starting to send their babies off to college. (I will be there in just 4 short years!) Those college dorm rooms can be pretty dull and uninspired with their cinderblock walls and basic wooden bunk beds… how much do you think your freshman would love to receive a plant to let them know they’re missed every day? Wouldn’t that be the perfect way to bring some life into their dorm room?(Might I recommend the snake plant which can do well with low light and neglect. 😉 It also happens to be a favorite of mine) The 1-800-Flowers.com plant shop offers more than 130 plants, including houseplants, blooming plants, succulents, bonsai, bamboo and more. Your options are boundless!

I know not all of us actually enjoy taking care of plants, so if you don’t have a clue, they’ve got ya covered. 😉
Now that I’ve shared with you why I think this is such a great way to spread love, I want to show you my gorgeous new plants! Each plant arrived in its own box, wrapped in paper, packaged carefully with the soil wrapped with plastic wrap to keep it secure, and a stake taller than each plant to keep the box (and plant)from being crushed. When I opened them, I was blown away at just how lush and green they each were.
Naturally, I chose a fiddle leaf fig because I just love their oversized oblong glossy leaves. They’re beautiful and whimsical!
Secondly, I chose one of my favorites because it seems to do well with little care and light… the snake plant! Gotta love a plant that doesn’t need much from you. The last plant I chose is one that I have not yet had in my life, and seems to be gaining popularity at a rapid pace, so I just had to check it out for myself… the ZZ plant. When I clicked on that species and read that it is tolerant of neglect and happy with low light, I thought, “That’s a perfect plant for me!” Isn’t it a cutie? Look at those fun leaves which are not only adorable but will help purify your air. It’s named ZZ for its scientific name (Zamioculcas zamiifolia- say that 10 times fast!) but I like to think it’s named ZZ for the zig zag shape its leaves seem to make together along a stem.
Each plant arrives in its greenhouse plastic pot inside another modern neutral pot that suits my aesthetics perfectly.
Ok, so now that you know all about 1800Flowers new plant delivery service, I thought I’d share some little teasers of our kitchen, as well as some other fun plant photos. I thought it was funny to line them up at the front door, like people arriving for a visit. I shared this photo with Chris and had a giggle, and he didn’t get my humor. I just feel like this would be the perfect “caption that!” (I would love it if you’d leave one in the comments!)
Of course, I let them come on in! (You can see our plastic taped off living room entry to the left).
And one more… a little peek into the kitchen from the entry.
Chances are, you already have someone in mind whose day and so many days ahead would be brightened by the gift of a new house plant. As I mentioned above, I can think of a few friends who I would love to send one to. Celebrate the big moments as well as the little moments, or just send along a token to let someone know you care today and always.
