If you’ve been reading my blog for the past year, you may recall last year I did something I never thought I would do- I ran 17 miles as part of a team running a 200 mile relay spanning from Gettysburg to DC. I wrote about my experience here, but in a nutshell it left me feeling on top of the world and ready to take on anything!
It was SO amazing, that I decided to gather a group of bloggers to form a team for the 2015 American Odyssey Relay which will kick off this Friday morning, and finish Saturday evening. I knew that with the social media power of 12 runners who are bloggers, we could reach and inspire so many people to challenge themselves, and to push themselves to do things they never thought possible. Together Team Bloggin’ & Joggin’ will run 200 miles, and together we will do things we never knew our bodies could do! (We will also probably share some ridiculously and deliriously funny moments as we sweat, run, and drive into the wee hours of the night!). I want you to follow along so that you will be inspired to dust off those joggers, put on your headphones, and get moving!
For me personally, this year will be a true challenge. My first leg is hands down the hardest leg of the entire relay, with a 4 mile uphill climb. This is what I will be doing Friday around lunchtime…
I figured as team captain that I would go ahead and just sign myself up for the hardest running position because, hey, someone has to do it! May as well be me! There may be some walking involved, but who knows? I have been training and challenging myself to reach new heights, literally. I really don’t know how I will do in that moment, but we will see! (And if you never hear from this blog again, I think it’s safe to assume it didn’t go well.). 😉 I do know that I will give it my all, I will get up that hill, and I will be proud of myself no matter what happens. A good friend sent this to me for a laugh, and now I just need someone to make me this sign….
Now I would like to take a moment to introduce you to
ladies who are as crazy as me my Bloggin’ & Joggin’ team members.
In van 1 we have myself plus….
Karah from The Space Between
Karah may live in Aruba right now, but she is flying in just to do this relay! She’s going to stay with me a bit, too, and I am so looking forward to
putting her skills to work hanging out with her. Karah also stepped right up and volunteered to take the second hardest running position and will also be facing some challenging hills. We’ve got this!
Beckie from Infarrantly Creative
Beckie is a DIY mastermind, and I think one of the first blogs I ever followed! She’s insanely talented and when I saw her instagrams last year of her running experiences, I decided to ask her to be on my team. She had done a relay like this once before and was ready to take on the challenge again!
Jessica from Dear Emmeline
Jessica is one of the sweetest bloggers I know, and is rehabbing an old home at the moment. It’s coming along beautifully! She also paints some amazing furniture which she sells at Sweet Clover! Jessica was not a runner before she started training for this race. She’s one of a few that were not runners, and I could not be more proud of her. It takes courage to sign up for something you have never done before!
Jessica from Pace of Me
I joke that Jessica is my “ringer”. I met Jessica years ago when she bought furniture from me for her soon to be baby. We hit it off and have stayed in touch. She’s a legit running coach, marathon runner, pilates instructor and more. She’s basically just amazing, and one of the most positive and inspiring people I know.
Heather from The Heathered Nest
Heather quickly jumped in as we lost one member to a foot injury. She signed on I think before she knew what she was getting herself into and I just LOVE that about her! She was not afraid and didn’t question and just went for it! She also has some insane DIY skills and a gorgeous home! We are excited she joined us!
And in van 2 we have…
Megan from Rhapsody in Rooms
I have gotten to know Meghan well through all of this planning, and she has been a huge help to me, and will be co-captaining in Van 2 for me. She has such a cheerful and positive outlook and I am really looking forward to getting to know her even more!
Chaney from May Richer Fuller Be
I met Chaney a year and a half ago at Sweet Clover for the first time, and she has a very magnetic and happy disposition! I have loved getting to know her, love her can-do attitude, and she has amazing style, too. Chaney has been KILLING it on her training, running faster than she ever has with a sub 8 minute mile! Boom.
Sarah from The Thriftress
Sarah, of course, you all know as my business partner at Sweet Clover. I couldn’t do this relay and NOT have her on my team. It would be like running without my right leg. She completes me. 😉 And she’s made me so proud… Sarah is one who started off as a non- runner and has come SO far, and even joined a running club. The best part of this relay for me so far has been seeing her set goals and reach them.
Paula from Sweet Pea
Paula has some serious paint and DIY skills, love a thrifty find as much as I do, and also stepped right up to the plate and volunteered to be on this team! But I mean, her very own blog bio states, “My very favorite thing to do is to sweat, either running, biking, playing tennis, or hitting the weight room.” Don’t worry, Paula- you will get to do a lot of your favorite thing this weekend!
Vidya from What’s Ur Home Story
Vidya is the last of the self-proclaimed non runners on our team who have worked so hard and come so far. She is ready to take on this relay and I am so happy for her. You’ve got to read the story about telling her husband she had signed up for this relay! Vidya and I also share a love for making over furniture and she has magnificent DIY skills and loves to use fun color!
Alexis from Flecks of Lex
Alexis writes a very appropriate fitness blog! Whereas most of us are DIY people, Alexis is a true fitness buff with a passion for getting the most out of life and creating a healthy lifestyle. I have loved getting to know Alexis through this team, and look forward to getting to know her even more!
And now I want to also take a chance to thank all of the sponsors who have jumped in to help make this little dream of mine a reality! This team’s participation in the AOR would not be possible without these fabulous brands….
