30 Day Thirfted Fashion Challenge Week 2
We are almost halfway through the #30daythriftedfashion challenge! Today I am here to share all of the outfits that Emmy and I put together for week 2 as well as several that caught my eye from instagram and the facebook group this past week. I am stoked about the next couple of weeks as well because Emmy and I got in a little thrifting while we were in Hilton Head for the HGTV Dream Home event and scored some really nice pieces I am looking forward to sharing. Secondly, this week I am meeting with a local to set up a giveaway to help her celebrate her first year of selling vintage, and the last day of this challenge simultaneously. There are so many fun things circulating around this challenge, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about the energy. Because of the amazing reception, I am thinking of making this a seasonal event, 4 times a year, or expanding it somehow. I’d love to hear your thoughts on that if you care to comment. Now without further ado, let’s get into a week’s worth of thrifted fashion!
Day 8
You may have noticed this outfit in yesterday’s post because I wore it to the HGTV Dream Home Cabinets To Go event. The jeans are the only non-thrifted item, but good jeans can be hard to come by. I bought these James jeans years ago and they continue to be my favorite pair. I had blue distressed ones, too, but they got caught on a screw and that was the end of that. While I am an advocated for buying used, I also believe in spending on investment staples, and these jeans are just that. They’re high wasted, stretchy, and 100% comfortable… pretty much leggings but they look nicer. The sweater, bag, and boots are all thrifted.
Emmy actually found this bag while we were in Hilton Head. It’s by Wilson’s Leather and had the $238 price tag on it… We scored it for $8! We couldn’t believe it! It’s an awesome size and could even store a laptop. Here is a similar one for $30 on Poshmark. By the way, I am getting no commission from poshmark- I just wanted to link to things for your shopping convenience and want to encourage used for these items.
The sweater is not any special brand, but I am a neutral lover and knew I’d get a lot of miles out of a black sweater, and I loved the zipper detail.
Day 9
Have I ever told you that Chris is from Miami and is a big Miami fan? When Emmy and I spotted this rival Florida Gators vintage style hoodie, we knew it would ruffle some feathers if we brought it home from our local Goodwill. Naturally, we did just that. This child lives for comfortable hoodies when she isn’t in her school polo shirts.
Day 10
Last fall before I headed to a conference where the attire was “business casual” I searched for a blazer I could wear with jeans. Blazers can be so challenging because I have narrow shoulders but really long arms. I found this vintage wood blazer and loved the fun rust color and it fit! It was meant to be and I wore it to the conference. Here I am just wearing it with a layering tank, old toothpick jeans from J. Crew (these are not thrifted but I do have a pair in another rinse I thrifted), and some of my favorite flats, Rothys. If you have not yet tried Rothys, I strongly recommend them. These are a couple years old and look like new even though I wear them frequently. They’re also made from recycled bottles! I have the loafers on here which I love. I tried the ballet flats as well, but I ended up selling them because they were not as comfortable on my feet.
Day 11
Emy loves a top with a little boho detail and she had one like this that she outgrew. When she spied this owl at the thrift shop, she had to take it home.
Day 12
I found this pink J. Crew blouse when I still lived in Maryland and it’s a favorite. I love the fit and details. It’s lightweight and feels a little dressier for me. I found some identical on poshmark: sz 00, sz 2, sz 4 (way overpriced compared to the others) sz 6, sz 12. I am wearing a 6. Again I’m wearing my toothpick jeans and this time the shoes are my other favorite flats, these 100% recycleable Oka-bs.
This top has cute button back detailing, but one of them constantly pops open… I have got to pin it shut, but I keep forgetting!
Day 13
This photo is slightly out of focus (Thanks, Chris!), but nonetheless, the tunic is thrifted. I found this Fabletics navy half sleeve sweatshirt tunic with zipper details on the sides and pockets, and knew it would be SOOOO comfy with leggings, but look a little nicer because it has a “dress-like” quality to it. Or maybe I am fooling myself because I love comfort. Don’t tell me. I found this one in gray available on poshmark in small here and here, and large. I am wearing a medium. (I am almost 5’7″).
Day 14
I told you Emmy likes those boho details, and this super soft knit sweater has lace trim along the back that she fell in love with. If you haven’t guessed by now, we are both creatures of comfort when it comes to dressing ourselves. She’s the apple to my tree.
That’s all from us, now I want to share with you some of the fabulous outfits put together by others joining me in this challenge.
Monica owns a children’s resale shop in San Fran whom I met through doing this challenge. She just oozes casual chic style and I have been loving the looks she has been sharing. This one is one of my favorites featuring a second hand cardigan, and a men’s Everlane shirt she styled so nicely! I think it’s a smart idea to check the men’s section for myself. Also, she fringed those jeans herself.
Speaking of fringed jeans upcylcing, Jeannie did just that to these jeans she thrifted and paired with a thrifted cardigan and jacket. The only thing in her outfit that is new is the shoes!
Carrie scored this stunning dress and just had to get it… I can see why! She also wrote an entire blog post about building a second hand capsule wardrobe… I love the thought put into this idea.
M shared this awesome jumpsuit she found, and I loved her reason for wearing it… aside from the current style, she says “they feel like pajamas and require no additional outfit planning.” Amen to that!
Ann shared this cozy thrifted sweatshirt paired with gorgeous Hunter boots she got from a swap! Also, do you spy a photobomb? 😉
One of my longest running clients from WAAAAAAY back when I started refinishing furniture is Danielle, who just started her own sale instagram page featuring upcycled thrifted and vintage clothing. She added an awesome tiger patch to this jacket! And yes, I know I have a typo…. this was on my instagram story. SMH!
Carrie showed off these amazing sparkly joggers and I never knew I needed them until now.
Lo is a breast cancer survivor who shared this thrifted shirt her mom got her before her double mastectomy since she knew it would be easy to get on and off. It looks perfect on her, and isn’t she one beautiful warrior?
Seth, once again representing the men, has me thinking I need to start thrifting for Chris when I am out. He’s never been into it like I am, but Seth has an entire wardrobe of amazing finds!
Last but not least, Mary once again is killing it with her thrifted look, which I would totally steal! I love this outfit! What can I say, black, white, denim, and brown shoes… yes, please!
That’s all for this week. I hope you have been enjoying seeing all of these creative looks and clever upcycles people have come up with and I hope you read this and are inspired to shop used more often.
