HOLLA! It’s time to take Thrift Score Thursday into 2015! Are you ready? I am ready! I’m looking forward to sharing all of your amazing thrifty finds and my own this year (oh and just wait until you see today’s!).
Since we took a couple weeks off for the holidays, let me refresh your memory….
We want you to participate! Hit up your local thrift stores, craigslist, yard sales, estate sales, side of the road, anything! Thrifty doesn’t necessarily mean from a thrift store. We want to see your good deals, wacky finds and treasures.
Don’t feel like you need to save those finds for Thursdays! Yes, features are shared on our blogs and Instagram on Thursdays, but we’re all checking in on (and using!) the hashtag all week long. So, when you see/find it, feel free to share it!
Each week, Trisha from Black and White Obsession, Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Corinna from For My Love Of, Brynne from The Gathered Home and a weekly guest co-host will pick a favorite thrift score or two to feature! So please note that by linking up with#thriftscorethursday, you are giving us permission to share your finds via social media or on our blogs.
This week, we have an awesome woodland animal loving thrifter sister…. Gretchen from Boxy Colonial. I just love this girl and her fun style! If you haven’t visited her before, you must! She’s a girl after my own heart.
And here are my awesome thriftalicious features this week!
Kayla of The Gilded Bear totally killed it with her amazing finds! I am in LOVE with this brass shelf she found for $30, but it was a catch and release.
And then she also found this amazing bamboo piece, again a catch and release. But I am onto her. I will be tracking her and picking up her throwbacks!
Like what you see? Go let her know by giving her a like or follow on instagram! You can find Kayla here.
Danavee from This Vintage Grove found some amazing things, like legwarmers and art (which could be an awesome name for someone else starting a blog, by the way. I blog at Legwarmers & Art; see?). Anyhow, I am in love with both, but since it is currently 8 degrees here, I am really digging those legwarmers. I need a full size body warmer.
Check her out on instagram for more amazing finds. And you’ve GOT TO SEE her Christmas card- the most awesome card ever. Click here to find her on instagram.
And now, how about mine! I have to tell you a story though first…. I paid WAY more than I wanted to, but still thrifty as it’s less than half the price of others I have seen. I saw this chair in a recent auction listing, and Emmy had been asking for one for her room. I showed her the listing and told her I was going to try to win it for her. When the auction day rolled around, she was so excited and asked to come with me, so of course I let her. She was very patient and waited around a while (as one does at an auction), and I thought I had a great shot at getting a good deal, based on the crowd that day. Well, it was time for the chair and I got into a bidding war and went up to $150, and was outbid at $160. I said no, but Emmy looked up at me and the auctioneer hesitated before he finalized her bid, and I jumped in again at $170. I was not outbid that time, and when we won it Emmy cheered (which people just don’t do at the auction, so it was funny!). Emmy’s birthday is right around the corner, so this chair turned into part birthday gift as I spent $70 more than I was hoping. But in the end, I have a VERY happy child who’s been enjoying her chair.
Here it is in her room- I haven’t yet decided if I will hang it from the ceiling or just paint the stand. Any thoughts?
You might notice another new piece in there, but details will be coming later. We’ve been rearranging her room a bit to give her more clothing storage and make this chair fit well. I have plans for the nook behind it as well. And luckily, we had all the items the chair needed on it waiting at home!
This chair is vintage and not perfect as you can see, but it is in overall good solid shape.
We used a faux sheepskin from Ikea that I already had to make it cozy. I had stowed away the pink buffalo check covers to give her for her birthday (she wanted her room in pink, gold, black, and white, with a touch of aqua, so I had purchased the covers a couple months back). Since the chair was part birthday gift, I went ahead and pulled them out for her. And the panda bear was made by the elves and Lolly (our elf) gave it to Emmy this year. Each of the past 3 years she’s received a similar handmade animal. Thank goodness for Etsy! I found the panda in this adorable shop, BrioTrio, and the shop owner custom makes them. I had mentioned that Emmy’s room was going to be pink, white, gold, and black, and she used pink and gold fabric! How adorable!
So that’s it for this wee! Be sure to visit all of my cohosts and see what they’ve found and featured!
