HOLLA!  It’s time to take Thrift Score Thursday into 2015!  Are you ready? I am ready!  I’m looking forward to sharing all of your amazing thrifty finds and my own this year (oh and just wait until you see today’s!).

thrift score thursday10

Since we took a couple weeks off for the holidays, let me refresh your memory….

We want you to participate! Hit up your local thrift stores, craigslist, yard sales, estate sales, side of the road, anything! Thrifty doesn’t necessarily mean from a thrift store. We want to see your good deals, wacky finds and treasures.

Don’t feel like you need to save those finds for Thursdays! Yes, features are shared on our blogs and Instagram on Thursdays, but we’re all checking in on (and using!) the hashtag all week long. So, when you see/find it, feel free to share it!

Each week, Trisha from Black and White Obsession, Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Corinna from For My Love Of, Brynne from The Gathered Home and a weekly guest co-host will pick a favorite thrift score or two to feature! So please note that by linking up with#thriftscorethursday, you are giving us permission to share your finds via social media or on our blogs.

This week, we have an awesome woodland animal loving thrifter sister…. Gretchen from Boxy Colonial.  I just love this girl and her fun style!  If you haven’t visited her before, you must!  She’s a girl after my own heart.

And here are my awesome thriftalicious features this week!

Kayla of The Gilded Bear totally killed it with her amazing finds!  I am in LOVE with this brass shelf she found for $30, but it was a catch and release.

tstkainable

And then she also found this amazing bamboo piece, again a catch and release.  But I am onto her.  I will be tracking her and picking up her throwbacks!

tstkainable2

Like what you see?  Go let her know by giving her a like or follow on instagram!  You can find Kayla here.

Danavee  from This Vintage Grove found some amazing things, like legwarmers and art (which could be an awesome name for someone else starting a blog, by the way.  I blog at Legwarmers & Art; see?).  Anyhow, I am in love with both, but since it is currently 8 degrees here, I am really digging those legwarmers.  I need a full size body warmer.

tstvintagegrove

Check her out on instagram for more amazing finds.  And you’ve GOT TO SEE her Christmas card- the most awesome card ever.  Click here to find her on instagram.

And now, how about mine!  I have to tell you a story though first…. I paid WAY more than I wanted to, but still thrifty as it’s less than half the price of others I have seen.  I saw this chair in a recent auction listing, and Emmy had been asking for one for her room.  I showed her the listing and told her I was going to try to win it for her.  When the auction day rolled around, she was so excited and asked to come with me, so of course I let her.  She was very patient and waited around a while (as one does at an auction), and I thought I had a great shot at getting a good deal, based on the crowd that day.  Well, it was time for the chair and I got into a bidding war and went up to $150, and was outbid at $160.  I said no, but Emmy looked up at me and the auctioneer hesitated before he finalized her bid, and I jumped in again at $170.  I was not outbid that time, and when we won it Emmy cheered (which people just don’t do at the auction, so it was funny!).  Emmy’s birthday is right around the corner, so this chair turned into part birthday gift as I spent $70 more than I was hoping. But in the end, I have a VERY happy child who’s been enjoying her chair.

Emmy in Hanging Chair

Here it is in her room- I haven’t yet decided if I will hang it from the ceiling or just paint the stand.  Any thoughts?

Hanging Chair

You might notice another new piece in there, but details will be coming later.  We’ve been rearranging her room a bit to give her more clothing storage and make this chair fit well.  I have plans for the nook behind it as well.  And luckily, we had all the items the chair needed on it waiting at home!

This chair is vintage and not perfect as you can see, but it is in overall good solid shape.

Hanging Chair 2We used a faux sheepskin from Ikea that I already had to make it cozy.  I had stowed away the pink buffalo check covers to give her for her birthday (she wanted her room in pink, gold, black, and white, with a touch of aqua, so I had purchased the covers a couple months back).  Since the chair was part birthday gift, I went ahead and pulled them out for her.  And the panda bear was made by the elves and Lolly (our elf) gave it to Emmy this year.  Each of the past 3 years she’s received a similar handmade animal.  Thank goodness for Etsy!  I found the panda in this adorable shop, BrioTrio, and the shop owner custom makes them.  I had mentioned that Emmy’s room was going to be pink, white, gold, and black, and she used pink and gold fabric!  How adorable!

So that’s it for this wee!  Be sure to visit all of my cohosts and see what they’ve found and featured!

That is an incredible deal on the chair! I’ve been stalking craigslist for the past year and change and I’ve seen 1 pop up and it was painted white. And it was $200. Sigh… yours is beautiful and I really, really love the vintage stand.

OMG that shelf and the cabinet!!!! I want to go to the thrift stores she goes to. And you already know how much I love the hanging chair. I actually would prefer hanging it from the ceiling because it would make vacuuming so much easier. The stand might leave marks on the carpet too 😉 I want one too

Love that chair! Now I’m kicking myself because there was one at my mom’s shop awhile back for….like $70 or something? and I didn’t get it because I didn’t need it YET. Emmy looks like she’s loving it :). And how cute is that panda!?

CUTE CHAIR! I love that Emmy went with you and was so excited to get it. I think painting the base would look good, the only thing about hanging it from the cieling is you won’t be able to move it around if you need to.

Are you kidding me?! $170 is a complete STEAL! I’ve been researching and pricing out hanging chairs because I want one for the new nursery, and those babies come with a hefty price tag! I’m so glad you were able to get this for your sweet girl. I can tell she loves it to pieces. 🙂

Auctions are so unbelievably exciting. Except when you’re the one in the bidding war.

Seems like Emmy is a champ, you should have coached her to shed some tears if you lost that way you could scoop it up from the meanie winner. But then again, you won it, so it didn’t need to come down to that. Next time though, prep that girl, use it to your advantage!

Oh, I LOVE that chair! And the stand! My vote is definitely to keep the stand – for some reason I’m picturing the stand in robin’s egg blue (probably because of the egg shape of the chair) and in my mind it looks FABULOUS! 🙂

So worth it! She is so cute in it! And I hear the point about the vacuuming, but think that stand might be awesome as the “touch of aqua” in the room … just sayin;.

And seriously, that old video you posted, I can’t stop watching it! Seems we’re in the same mental spot these days. I’d say we should chat about it over a bottle of wine, but we are not on the same meal plan these days. 😉 Hope it’s going well for you.

The stand is rarer than the chair. You can probably sell the stand for $125 on eBay with a little patience. Let it sit and a midcentury dealer will buy it.
