Before I get into sharing some updates on my living room with you, I just want to mention that Haven was AWESOME.
Here is my recap: I drove, I learned, I danced…. all with the most amazing and creative people in the world. The end. (Ok, seriously though, I don’t know if I will ever recap it as there is just too much to say; so for now, just know it was fabulous).
Anyhow, I have been meaning to share an updated tour of the living room with you. Back in… oh maybe March…. I found a new to me coffee table at Goodwill not long after I had just posted an update featuring the black backed bookcases. So I decided to wait on sharing it. Fast forward 4 months, and I’ve swapped out our desk, changed the mantle up for summer, and just figured it was about time I show you what’s changed before it’s too late and I am on to my Christmas mantle.
Let’s take a closer look at what we can see above before moving onto other areas of the room.
My summer mantle is fairly simple, with natural and brass/gold elements. I’ve added gold dipped bottles and other bottles, wild turkey, peacock, and pheasant feathers, a seashell, vintage books (one being an Audubon book decorated with feathers) and a fabulous pom pom garland.; and the heart is set with driftwood, my favorite brass deer, and my auction find antique sign.
On the other side of the room, we’ve also replaced Chris’ desk. He’ll be working from home an extra day now with his new job, so I figured something with more drawers would be better. And let’s face it, I just wanted to change out some furniture because that’s how I roll; and I knew I wanted something midcentury to bring more of that vibe into the room. I’ll be sharing more on the desk at a later date, but for now just enjoy it’s debut.
I brought in an extra bentwood to use as the desk chair since the opening was a little narrow and didn’t fit our previous chair. As you can see, I’ve also got our summer list up on the chalkboard! We’ve done actually quite well at accomplishing our goals! Because we are over achievers we’ve also created our own options, like pajama day week and ice cream for dinner, and every meal that day followed by ice cream for dessert.
The bookcases have also received a couple of new additions, including a brass unicorn head and brass swan bookends. If you ever want to break into my house, think twice, because my brass animals are guard brass animals. FYI.
Behind the sofa, I have a gorgeous bamboo look table I purchased at Sweet Clover. Underneath it, I added a vintage trunk and my white and gold antlers. Because if the brass animals don’t get you, I’ve got pretty antlers to defend myself.
On top of that table, I’ve added a great vintage metal tic tac toe game I found. Emmy loves to play with it! Unfortunately the antelope loses every time, so he’s pouting. He was “X” in case you can’t tell.
And of course I have to show you the new coffee table…. I found this huge glass top table for a song at Goodwill. It’s slightly worn, but I loved it as is! I love its brass tray, it’s awesome woodwork, and fabulous scale. It couldn’t be better suited for our space!
One thing I want to mention since they are harder to see in these images: To date, my favorite living room project is my industrial pipe built ins which flank the fireplace. They really complete that space! And I loved that it was a project Chris and I worked on together, which is a rare gem. 😉
Speaking of Chris, while I was at Haven I heard a few people tell me they felt they knew me and my kids well, but not my husband. Does he even exist or have I made him up for the blog? Good questions, really. The people who asked know me well enough to know that I am capable of making up an entire human being just to suit a role on my blog. 😉 But seriously, he’s real and I am trying to convince him he needs to be more involved and maybe even write a post for you. Stay tuned!!!!
Now, it’s off to the barn; back to work this week!
