It’s been a long time since I’ve shared much of our own home. I pulled it together to share some spaces with you in my Fall tours this year, but as for just regular old house posts, I have been dragging my feet. But guess what!?!? Today is the day! I am excited to finally share with you some updates I’ve made around the house. We’ve been fortunate enough to get a couple of new rugs which caused a snowball effect around here. It truly amazes me the impact changing just one element in a room, the rug, can have on the overall feel of a space.
I am going to start in our master bedroom, because I got a new rug for it this summer… and it’s taken me months to share it here. Shameful! 😉 For the past few years we’ve had a moroccan rug that is no longer available in this space, and I have loved it, but if you know me, then you know I always welcome change. When Bosphorus Rugs contacted me to collaborate, I was feeling ready for a change in that room and I knew a vintage rug would be perfect. However, I wanted to keep it feeling light in that space. It’s one of the most peaceful rooms in our home, and I prefer it that way…. mama needs a retreat!
As you can see, the rug I chose is a pale coral color with blush, mint, black, ice blue, and cream in it. It seemed like the perfect colors for our space to keep it light but bring a little more “boho” to our bedroom.
I want to mention a couple other things about this space as well. A few people have asked if we still love our Home Depot Pet Proof carpeting and the answer is a resounding yes! It still looks just as good as it did the day it was installed and it has been really easy to clean. I accidentally walked upstairs with chicken poop on my shoe that I then got on the carpeting… hazards of owning chickens. It came right off and left no mark. We’ve also been allowing the dogs to sleep upstairs in our room much more frequently now, and the carpet has held up beautifully to their dander. I am actually hoping at some point to be able to recarpet the other bedrooms in the same.
Additionally, since I shot these, I added one little adorable pillow from Modern Plum. It adds a nice touch of sky blue to the bed and, in my opinion, you can never have too many blue textiles.
I also get tons of questions on my pom pom blanket, which I found on Amazon of all places! I’ve put together a little source list for you here:
White Duvet / White Faux Fur Pillows- similar here / Indigo Lumbar Pillow / Skye Pillow / Mudcloth for Headboard / Pom Pom Striped Blanket (loads of color options) / Vintage bench- similar / Vintage Rug / Burlwood Frames / Vintage Accordion Rack- similar / Nightstands- DIY here / Vintage Wood Dresser- similar / Vintage White Dresser- DIY here / Vintage Tulip Chair- similar / Blush Pillow- similar / Blue Block Print Pillows- DIY but similar here / Jackalope Faux Taxidermy / Cactus Photo- My Original (contact me if you would like to purchase)
Now you might be wondering what happened to the large Moroccan rug we had in this space. I couldn’t bring myself to part with it as I knew eventually I would want it again or find a place for it. We rolled it up and put it in the basement, but just last week I decided that it would be perfect in our dining room. As you saw from yesterday’s post, I removed the turquoise sideboard…. I replaced it with a wood midcentury piece, and the rug just brings it all home for me.
Of course, I didn’t remove all color when I took out the turquoise piece. You may recall we recently added a green hutch, and it brings the perfect punch to the room.
As you can see, the dogs are loving that we now have a cozy soft rug for them to lay on in this space. You can also see that Snowball has been on too many wet walks and needs a bath…. she’s a little dingy! This rug is no longer available from Rugs USA for some reason, but I’ve created a source list with some similar items for you in case you’re interested.
Moroccan Rug / Dining Table- 14 years old from Crate & Barrel, but available on Chairish / Vintage Bentwood Chairs- similar here / Panton Chairs / Barnwood Bench- similar / Sheepskin- thrifted, similar / Vintage Record Stand- similar / Midcentury Dresser- similar / Green Hutch- similar / Chandelier / White Curtains
I have one more space to share with you in the great rug shuffle! Boutique Rugs reached out to me and wanted to send me a rug. At the time, I knew I was pregnant, but did not yet know what I was having. I asked if we could wait until I found out, and they were very gracious in allowing me to wait. I don’t yet have a photo of the beautiful and cozy rug I ordered, but I ended up going with a gorgeous neutral rug… the plans in my mind keep changing, but this rug will be perfect no matter what I do. It’s going in the room that will become baby boy’s room, of course, which meant that the black and white rug that had been in the room needed to go. We ordered this rug a few years ago from RugsUSA, and unfortunately it’s no longer available. Anyhow, one day last week I was feeling really determined and slightly overconfident. I somehow was able to maneuver the rug from under the antique iron bed, roll it up, and haul it down to our living room where I wanted to try it.
I moved all the furniture, put the rug in place and unrolled it. I put the furniture back and was immediately glad I had moved it because I just love the graphic punch it adds here.
Do you spy with your little eye a new pillow? Holly owns a fabulous etsy shop that sells pillows created from her stunning horse photography. She sent me a pom pom trimmed Stepping Horse Pillow and he is right at home with the Falsa blanket on my sofa. As you can see, my plants have all come in for the summer as well. It’s a jungle in here! This room gets the best light, so they all have to go in here, minus a few in my bedroom window.
If you look closely, you can see the old rug is still under there… I didn’t measure and wondered if they would layer well, and just rolled it out and threw caution to the wind. The remaining border isn’t much, but it doesn’t bother me, so stay it shall. Because lazy.
OK, I think I have got you up to date on most things! Of course as the holidays are approaching, things are likely to be adjusted and sparkled accordingly! I have been holding back, but yesterday I could hold back no more and my porch was Christmas-ified! Last year’s version was natural bohemian and rustic, and this year I think the thoughts of baby boy are getting to me, and our porch has become a colorful and kid-friendly expression of the holiday, a total 180 but I love it. I am looking forward to sharing it with you!
Before I go, just wanted to remind you to check out the awesome free Mrs. Meyer’s holiday cleaning set you can nab! This offer ends on Sunday, so don’t miss out! My house smells like candy canes, and yours can, too!
