Three posts this week?!? What? I am really pushing it, I know, but I figure I have 8 days until the baby arrives so I had better get some reading material up for you before it’s too late and I disappear for a bit. Last month I showed you how I wallpapered the nursery closet, and today I am going to be sharing the wallpapered nursery closet reveal! It’s somewhat filled and accessorized (and I am sure it will continue to fill up over time!) and organized. Next week I will be revealing the entire room now that it’s 100% ready for its incoming occupant, so stay tuned for that. I’ll also be sure to share all of the sources for this space in that post. I am so happy with how this closet turned out; in fact it’s my favorite nook of the entire room! If you remember, before we started, it looked like this… yikes! Those curtains were just a temporary thing, BTW and never actually hung there, way too short. I had tested them out and thought, “nope!” but was too lazy to take them down.
The major tasks were really the removal of the shelves, adding a new painted shelf, painting the trim and walls, and of course wallpapering the back wall of the closet in Dotty Dinosaurs from Wallpaper Direct. I couldn’t love this paper any more than I do… it’s whimsical and fun and suits our family, but it has a more sophisticated look to it. You can read all of the details that went into prep as well as my step by step wallpaper tutorial here. Once we had it all put together again and ready, it was time to fill it with the necessities.
I had a dresser waiting in my garage which was almost exactly the width of the closet opening. It was a beautiful wood midcentury piece but I feared it might be a tad too big and not allow room for much else. One day while perusing facebook marketplace I came across a free midcentury dresser that had been posted several hours before. I was certain it was probably spoken for, but I threw caution to the win and replied anyhow. As luck would have it, I was the first person to reply and arranged to pick it up the very next day! It had some scratches on the drawers, but I was able just to rub a little gel stain in there and make it blend. The top is laminate and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that, but recalling how my kids treated and still treat their furniture, I decided that wasn’t such a bad thing after all!
The size of this dresser is just perfect in the closet and allowed room for me to add a large basket which will eventually be used for toys I would imagine. Currently it’s empty. 😉 I found this basket at my local Goodwill for $5 and just kept it in my garage all winter knowing I would find a place for it.
On top of the dresser a smaller basket holds swaddle cloths, including one that seems to almost mimic the wallpaper! Emmy and I found a sweet pair of muslin swaddle cloths in navy and dino print at TJ Maxx. (Similar here). And of course, look at those tiny shoes. They kill me!
All of the clothes that are in the smallest sizes are currently in the drawers of the dresser as well as caps and socks. On the shelf above the dresser I have 4 storage bins in gray that store all of the larger sized clothing we have. As you can see I’ve also hung some pieces on the rod.
These bins from Amazon come in a 4 pack for a reasonable price and are the ones we registered for. Chris’ work bestie gave them to us and I was so happy she did because they are useful and helped complete the closet! I also added a print that we used to have hanging in the playroom. I’ve moved art around in that space, and that left me with a couple of homeless framed pieces of art. I thought this one was perfect here as it’s one of our favorite Dumbledore quotes. I actually created a bunch of quote printables when I made them for the playroom, so you can go grab a copy here if you’d like!
In addition to clothing and toy storage, I needed a place to store the baby carriers and diaper bag. I decided on hooks for the back of the closet and had settled on some adorable wooden raindrop hooks I found on Amazon. However, I found these big round Project 62 hooks in a set of 3 featuring blue, mint, and white from Target on clearance for just over $5! Boom, sold! I bought two sets just in case I need to add more later down the line. As you can see they are currently holding the bag I plan to use as a diaper bag, our wrap carrier, and our Tula free to grow carrier.
I searched high and low for a bag that was affordable and could double as a diaper bag. I didn’t want a standard “diaper bag” and instead bought an insert I could put in any bag of the right size. I also wanted one that wasn’t too feminine as I know there will be plenty of times that Chris will be carrying the bag. I found Kinies on etsy and immediately fell in love with the style of their bags. I ended up ordering this one on sale for $38.50 in Army Green. The good news is that when I showed it to Chris the first thing he said was, “I can man up on that!” Everyone’s happy. 🙂
That is all for the closet! We made some simple and easy to do changes that anyone can do, but what an impact they have on this space. Net week I’ll be sharing the entire nursery with you, so stay tuned for that! For now, here’s another little glimpse of the closet in the space. 🙂
