You guys, this past weekend was a whilwind…. the kids and I traveled to Knoxville, TN to visit my in-laws for the weekend.  We planned to arrive Friday (it’s a 7-8 hour trip) and come home Monday.  Due to winter storm Octavia taking us by surprise, we had to head home a day earlier.  Luckily we crammed a whole lot of fun into our Saturday there, and I even scored at a vintage shop (I’ll be sharing on Thursday).  Anyhow, we are home, safe and sound and slightly tired from all the traveling!

I haven’t working on many projects lately (at least that I can share yet) as the weather has been horrendous.  And currently I haven’t really “worked” on too many house projects but I have a kajillion on my brain.  I have a major itch to change lots of things.  If you follow me on instagram, you saw what I was up to yesterday with some furniture rearranging.  And as I shared last week, there has also been a lot going on just behind the scenes…. so lately all of these factors leave me feeling like I don’t have much to show you!

But luckily, I’ve got some old projects up my sleeves that I had yet to share, so what better time than now!  Today, I am finally showing you this washed dresser with rope pulls that I completed earlier this Fall.

Washed Dresser with DIY Rope PullsI found this dresser for a ridiculously low price at an auction.  By ridiculously low, I mean no one else even bid on it, so you can imagine.  It was nothing special, and I wasn’t a fan of the hardware, but I loved the details on the sides and also loved the bargain.

I thought that the spindles on the sides gave it sort of a nautical feel, so I decided to work in that direction.  I sanded it all over and wiped it with a damp rag.  I mixed a wash by mixing one part General Finishes Antique White with one part water.  I also kept a cup of water handy to rinse my brush as needed.  A clean rag was also necessary.

I worked quickly in sections, applying the diluted paint with a brush, and then using the rag to wipe in the direction of the grain.  I repeated this process until I had covered the entire piece.

I then lightly distressed the edges and details by hand with super fine sandpaper and gave it a coat of clear wax.

For the drawer pulls, I simply cut pieces of rope and tied them in knots on the inside of the drawer to secure them.  I glued the knots with hot glue to prevent them from coming undone.

I brought it over to Sweet Clover and staged it….

This one stuck around for a couple months, but ended up going to a new home at our November sale, when it was all decked out for Christmas!

Right now as I look at the snow outside my window, I am feeling SOOOO ready for Spring!  I am ready to dive into some projects that await warmer weather.  How about you?  Are you ready, too?

It’s so cute and love the nautical look you created. I can buy the old hardware if you don’t need it, I need some badly! Amen, bring on spring, I’m starting to get depressed and need to feel the sunshine again.

I’m so ready for spring too and we haven’t gotten near as much bad weather as y’all! Love the dresser! Those spindle details really make it unique. I redid a similar dresser one time and still wish I had kept it!

The rope pulls look awesome on this piece Cassie!

spring? soooo ready! We have snow and bitter cold here. I need to bring a headboard into the basement shop, but hurt my back shoveling the snow, so it looks like I’m taking a few days off. 🙁
