Wilder’s Bright & Happy Nursery
I am so excited today to share with you what I consider to be the reveal of Wilder’s bright & happy nursery featuring a new Mohawk rug. If you are new here, we moved into our home in January of this year, when Wilder was just over 8 months old. Moving into a new home gave me an opportunity to redesign his nursery a bit, even though I absolutely loved his old room. We started out by creating a similar vibe because that’s what we had, but as time has gone on we’ve made a few updates. The new rug arrived a couple of weeks ago and really brought it all home and completed the space. Today I am joining 4 other bloggers in Mohawk’s Spring Home Blog Tour so after you check out Wilder’s digs, be sure to click on their links at the bottom of this post to see their beautiful spaces and while you are at it enter to win your own Mohawk rug. While this is a technically a Spring home tour, the room I am sharing isn’t exactly decorated for the season. Vases of peonies don’t really do well in a nursery with a baby who is into everything! However, I’ve made a few colorful changes to brighten up this room for my happy baby boy who turns 1 this Saturday. Where is the time going? He’s growing and learning each and every day, and we’ve created a space where he can do that safely and happily. Mohawk has kindly provided me with a rug and sponsored this post. All opinions are my own.
Does that new rug not just make the space?!?!? I selected the Marrakesh rug in graphite. While I loved having a white and bright rug before, after a year of use, I’ve realized just how dirty our everyday use makes it. Additionally, our old rug was shag which was lovely, but the door always dragged on it, and now the door glides right over this lower pile rug beautifully. This rug also appealed to me because it is consciously created, using yarn made of recycled soda bottles; isn’t that incredible!?!? Lastly, this rug has a much more grown up feel to it which will grow perfectly with Wilder as he changes from baby to little boy to big boy, though this mama is not rushing that!
As you can see below, the Marrakesh rug has flecks of cream, graphite and black, as well as hints of indigo and violet. It works perfectly with the grays, blacks, and whites we have in this room, and grounds the space while allowing the colorful accents to really pop. The pattern has a bit of a global boho vibe that suits me style well.
To bring lively color to this space, I’ve added a couple of bright elements, such as a serape blanket in a mix of colors. This textile actually used to be in Emmy’s old bedroom, but here it was just being stored in our basement. Wilder is approaching the age that he can actually start using a blanket to sleep with, and the light weight of this one will be just perfect, especially for our first North Carolina summer.
As you can see, the blanket complements the rainbow colors of his books in the ledges.
We play in this space so often with Wilder, that I also recently brought back the DIY slipcovered ottoman I created for his last nursery. It fits perfectly under his changing table, and I can slide it out to sit on rather than sitting on the floor.
However, there will still be plenty of times where I can be found just like this, on the floor playing with my baby boy. Look at those chubby legs… his are pretty cute, too. 😉
I truly love that this room really carries on the legacy of the original nursery I created for him in white, gray, and blue, but now features bright and cheerful accents perfect for a growing child. Books and toys serve to provide opportunities to learn and are used as decor. After all, all of those books on the ledges are a little too paper thin for his destructive hands at the moment. The plentiful board books he can manage are kept in the lower bookcase for accessibility.
We’ve also provided him with many other colorful toys, such as these soft blocks. This expression is the “I will knock you over with the tip of my finger” look.
That’s soon followed up by the actual tipping finger.
And then, of course, there’s the old block on the head trick. Just indulge me while I take this opportunity to share photos of Wilder.
Wilder and the rest of us are thrilled with how our new Mohawk rug brought his new nursery together, functions much better for us, will hide dirt like a champ, and will be used for years to come as it grows with him! Thank you so much to Mohawk for providing Wilder with the perfect rug for his new room.
